A previous reviewer stated this was a lovely warm hotel how wrong they were. We have just returned from a 2 night stay in November and the bedrooms were freezing. I pointed this out to the owner and his response was that there was problems with the heating - no apology and he appeared to be completely disinterested in our... more

An old highland lodge, with a fine atmosphere and good service. We were the only guests staying that night (midweek in November is not a busy time in that part of the world) but the hotel was warm and comfortable and the staff were very welcoming. A good glass of wine in the bar and a selection of DVDs to... more

We wanted a break in the Scottish Highlands and stumbled accross Muckrach's website, which is beautifully designed and promised much. On arrival we were greeted in the car park by one of the owners as if we were returning to an old friend's country house. Our bags were carried from the car for us and we were offered a complimentary... more

The wife and I stayed at Muckrach a few years ago, and had an opportunity to stay again. Having not met the previous owners, we were pleasantly surprised when the new owners greeted us personally, and bent over backwards ensuring everything was perfect for us. There was a helicopter in the grounds and some fancy party while we were there,... more

This hotel is expensive for what you actually get. There are lots of things that the new owners hav'nt got right; our toiletories appeared to have been opened before, there was tea bags ect in the bedroom but we could'nt find a kettle. Breakfast was disappointing. We were told that we could'nt have porridge and a cooked breakfast, unless we... more

Conde Nast recommended this hotel in 2005 - it must have gone downhill since then. Not terrible but not great value for the money. Fun Scottish bull out front - rooms dated, weak shower, pleasant staff, worth a check in later however missing in 50 little details. more

WOW! We booked in for a nights Dinner Bed and Breakfast last weekend. The owners had only taken over 2 weeks ago, but they have go exactly the right attitude to make the Muckrach a 5 star resort. The personal friendly greeting in the car park, the attention to detail as you enter this lovely old building. The amazing Castle... more

We went on spec to see if they had any rooms and were greeted by a very friendly and helpful housekeeper who gave us an excellent rate for Dinner B&B in one of their suites. The suite itself had an upstairs bedroom & bathroom and downstairs living room .It was well appointed but if I was being nitpicky I could... more

We stayed at the Muckrach for 3 nights in December. Muckrach is a fairly typical stone-constructed Highland house with masses of appeal, located in an enviable position amid wonderful scenery. The bedrooms are large and comfortably appointed, but a bit draughty. Then again, if you stay in a hotel of this type you should expect that. Our bathroom was on... more

We stayed at the Muckrach as our six week tour of the UK was drawing to a close. Our cottage/suite was a very nice room. Clean and comfortable but I was not a fan of the two-floor concept. I've only this opinion as I occasionally deal with vertigo and it can sometimes be a challenge. The sloped ceiling in the... more
