We wanted to meet up with some Lancastrian friends for a meal and over-night catch-up, Holdsworth House turned out to be an excellent choice. Our rooms were available from 1pm so we were able to drop our bags off and head out to Bronteland for lunch. On our return there was help-yourself wine, and cream scones and tea to keep... More

This hotel is full of character and history, it is charming and has friendly helpful staff and there is a very relaxed atmosphere. On the practical points the beds are very comfortable, not too hard as most hotels I have stayed in. Extremely clean with everything replenished every day. The food is very good and the service is great. It... More

The dinner was excellent quality and made better by the service received. The venue was holding a large wedding so we were the only ones in the dining room but it felt intimate rather than awkward. Would definitely dine there again!

We have just returned from an overnight stay at this charming hotel which is steeped in history and character. We were there for wedding and this was a perfect venue. On arrival we were greeted enthusiastically at hotel check in and were given a friendly warm Yorkshire welcome. The house itself is unique with lots of lovely nooks and crannies... More

We have just returned from a delightful overnight stay at Holdsworth House and had such a lovely time that we have booked to go there again. The building is full of character and the gardens are lovely with plenty of places to walk round and sit down. We stayed in room 6 on the ground floor which is easily accessible... More

For one night this hotel is ok. The rooms are reasonable but nothing special. Similarly, breakfast was standard but again nothing special. The location is lovely on the moors but with no gym, I had to go road running to get any exercise. The staff were generally welcoming and friendly and the setting in an old building is interesting.

Stayed at this hotel for a wedding on Saturday and unfortunately my husband left his shirt behind when leaving on the Sunday. After a quick phone call to the hotel the shirt was duly returned the following day at no cost to ourselves! This was great customer service and very much appreciated. The hotel itself was lovely and full of... More

Stayed at Holdsworth House for 2 nights and it was simply wonderful... We received a welcome drink upon arrival and I was mesmerised by the history and beauty of the place.... The staff were all very pleasant and courteous and nothing was to much trouble for them.. The food was out of this world and worth the money... If Holdsworth... More

Eating in the restaurant on Saturday night was fantastic. The food was delicious and the menu catered for all tastes. I liked the service because it was polite and unobtrusive. The only down side was the James Blunt cd on a loop. The quality of the food was not matched by the position of the hotel (in an industrial estate... More

Our room was very dated and rather basic. Had we been staying more than one night, I'd have asked to be moved. The view from our ground floor room window was of the extension accommodation block, which looked tired and in need of some cleaning. First impressions were far from good! However, after that - very few complaints. The gardens... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Halifax's only four-star hotel is now listed in the 2013 Michelin Guide along with the country's elite hotels & restaurants. Holdsworth House is a beautiful Jacobean manor built in 1633, which has been owned and run by the Pearson family for 50 years. The manor stands in stunning, secluded gardens and is just three miles north of Halifax. It feels a world apart from the bustle of everyday life and is a perfect choice for accommodation, weddings and conferences. In this beautiful old house you'll find open fires, cosy lounges, fine antiques and tapestries that create a sense of history and comfort. The 39 charming bedrooms are all ensuite and have all been individually furnished. Dinner is served by candlelight in the 17th Century, oak-paneled 2 AA Rosette-winning restaurant whilst the Long Bar has a simpler brasserie style menu. ... more   less
