Karen and Keith, and their staff were very helpful and welcoming. I had their single room (5) in the main guest house which had a separate bathroom a few steps away - very good value for 3 nights. Excellent breakfasts with black pudding. I noted they have a separate dining room where you can eat takeaways in the evening but... More

Even before we'd arrived, the wonderful owners of Alder Lodge, Karen and Keith, were friendly, accommodating and helpful. They helped us with suggestions of places to go (e.g. west coast when the sea mist rolls into the East) and with an early check-in. Keith and Karen have a great enthusiasm for the Islands and endless patience in answering questions from... More

We stayed in the annex. The room is still nice, but it's about a 5 minute walk to the main house which is annoying in the morning. There's a TV in the annex room, and if you ask in the main house they might let you borrow one of their DVDs. There's also a kitchen in the annex, but you... More

We stayed in the annex rather than the main house, and our twin room was clean, comfortable and spacious. And it had a kettle, which is always a bonus. The annex has a large shared kitchen, which was really useful for preparing sandwiches, and a shared sitting room. Breakfast was good, although it was ever so slightly inconvenient to have... More

We stayed four nights at the Alder Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was reasonably furnished and clean, and the hosts (Keith & Karen) very hospitable. The breakfasts were good - I particularly enjoyed the smoked haddock. The location was convenient - a few minutes walk down to the centre of town and also close to the community centre... More

Well located though a short walk uphill from Main Street. Airport bus stops really close by. Easily found and a very warm welcome. Comfortable bed, excellent duvets and pillows, small but perfectly adequate en suite. My room was up a tight staircase so no good if elderly/ mobility impaired etc but plenty of ground floor rooms. Superb breakfast with the... More

The story is briefly told: A warm welcome from owners who know and love their island and take delighting sharing it with others. An immaculate room with good quality bedding and plenty of hot water. A first-rate breakfast with pleasant filter coffee and lovely bacon and sausages. I would happily come here again.
