We were extremely happy with our stay at the Fort Charlotte Guest House. We had Room 4 at the top of the building, and I believe we paid something like GBP 45 for it, even in midsummer. The room was nicely furnished & cheery, with a nice view over downtown Lerwick. The bathroom was modern and the showers were hot.... more

Perfectly situated in a quiet part of Lerwick, yet just a hop from the main street and all the attractions. The owners couldnt do enough for us, and we enjoyed our three day stay immensely. After a cold and blowy day out walking or sightseeing, to come back to a warm cosy room and bed was lovely. Breakfast was more... more

My brother, husband and I stayed at the Fort Charlotte Guest House for three nights in July 2009 and loved it. The owners are outstanding and go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. Jim knows all about Shetland and is an excellent source of information about the island. The breakfasts are tasty with a wide range of... more

My wife & I spent 4 nights at Fort Charlotte during our holiday to Shetland, Orkney & Edinburgh and enjoyed it tremendously. Arriving on Saturday afternoon, we were instructed to collect our keys from the fish & chip shop nearby that's also run by Jim - the start of an experience that was about as culturally different from London as... more

Fort Charlotte B&B is an oasis amid a desert of nice, reasonably priced places to stay. The rooms are small and well designed. The greeting is warm but efficient. Breakfast is excellent with fresh fruit salad and nice breads in addition to full Scottish cooked (too much for me). On the main street so may be a bit noisy at... more

Stayed here for four nights in June. The room was very large, and very comfortable, with a spacious bathroom. Well appointed, and quiet even though it overlooks a busy (albeit largely pedestrianized) street. Large shower, no bath. Breakfasts were excellent (scrambled eggs with smoked salmon were particularly good), and set you up well for the day's sightseeing or walking. The... more

We stayed here for 4 nights over the Shetland Folk Festival and I can honestly say that I have not stayed anywhere better for the price. Lynne and Jim bend over backwards to ensure your stay is a memorable and enjoyable experience. We had a lovely room with a super king-size bed - yes, super king! The TV in the... more

We had five nights staying with Lynne and Jim. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel at home and invited to use whatever facilities we needed - the washing machine! The location is right in the centre of town, not that anything is far. We had the front room, recently refurbished with taste and well fitted... more
