I stayed with my mum and two young children in this hostel for 7 nights. The owner was very welcoming and I felt that it offered amazing value for the price paid. The accommodation used to be a B&B and is now offered as a guest house, and the main things are that the room was clean, beds were comfortable... More

We arrived late off of the Orkney ferry, but had informed the proprietor of this at the time that we payed our £30 deposit. It was dark when we arrived, the front door stood wide open, and no one was in sight. No one came to greet us when we rang the bell, and on a quick inspection of the... More

This is now a hostel and I wouldn't stay in it if you paid me to. I turned up to check in at 8.30am as advised through the website. The first thing that hit me as I walked through the door was an awful smell. There was no one around so I ventured upstairs where I was met by someone... More

I stayed here 2 nights with 3 other family members in June of 2011. Malcolm was a wonderful host..so friendly and accommodating giving us suggestions for places to eat supper etc.( I highly recommend the Kirkwall Hotel!!) we spent our first night at Eastbank House on our way to Westray and stayed again upon our return. Again Malcolm went out... More

We were looking for some dog friendly accomodation in Kirkwall, which was gonna be our base for a few days while visiting the island. We stayed for 5 nights during school half-term at the end of October and I have to say that one of the very best places a been to. Breakfast by Stewart was everyday outstanding. And it... More

When I first read the reviews for Eastbank House, I was sceptical. They seem to be one extreme or the other. But, the price was right, and I thought it was close to the ferry terminal (it isn’t, but that was my own misunderstanding about where the ferry comes in, not anything to do with Eastbank House). I decided to... More

We stayed 3 nights at the end of July. Malcolm the host was very friendly and obliging. Breakfasts cooked by Stewart were fantastic, I recommend the haddock. Contrary to other reviews the kitchen was spotless and tidy. Ok so not 5 star but I don't mind if the the bedlinen isn't "designer" it was all clean and ironed and the... More

On a golfing trip with friends and stayed here for the 2nd year in a row. Great breakfast, clean rooms and staff could not be more friendly. If you like a laugh this is the place for you. Kirkwall is a fantastic town too, we will be back next year.

We arrived and had to wait ages for someone to arrive, once we were shown to our room we found the following  The room was grubby with a worn out carpet decorating that needed redoing.  Bedding looked grubby, worn and discoloured and not changed in weeks by the look of it.. The bed was meant to be a... More

When we arrived there was no-one there to greet us except for a dog in the dining area. we tried to call the Manager but got no response, the bell on reception did not work either so we went away and came back an hour later - still no-one to meet us. The reception area was foisty and smelled of... More
