This is the most delightful, very old and historic hotel with a grand sweeping staircase from the lobby. Our room was large, comfortable bed and linens. The bath was excellent. On checking in, we discovered burned out lightbulbs which were quickly changed for us. The location is ideal, on a little street with restaurants and shops, just a block from... More

Just completed a one-week stay at this hotel, and just loved it. From the reception staff (warm and welcoming) to the room (cozy but comfortable, and very clean), we were immediately made to feel at home. The hotel is housed in a 17th century building that oozes character, particularly in the common areas. The location, in central Kirkwall, is ideal... More

The food was fantastic when it came, very food slow service but worth the wait, staff were engaging and helpful. It's a fair hike to the upper floors and no offer of a help with my bags. The place is a bit tired but the room was clean & well appointed. Central to the town. Limited parking. I would stay... More

Good staff on reception. Comfortable rooms and a spacious residents lounge. Staff at breakfast were friendly and the food was good, but the waiting staff were not always able to keep on top of the number of guests - long waits for coffee or toast, not getting cooked breakfast order correct. We stayed twice and there was a mix up... More

What a great place to stay, the food service and hospitality are excellent. Local attractions close by and shops on your doorstep. 10/10. Would certainly go again.Cant thank the staff enough, was ill on the second day and they brought breakfast to my room.

Initially went for a family meal. Waitress service was at best slow and indifferent but the food was good if a touch expensive. Despite it being clearly listed on the menu I was told there was no cask conditioned beer available. More fool me as I believed them. Later I found the lounge bar, located at the back of the... We spent a week at the Orkney Hotel to coincide with the St Magnus Festival. It was our second visit to Orkney and we had an absolutely brilliant time. The Orkney Hotel exceeded our expectations (as did the festival). Our room was well equipped with a four poster bed and Jacuzzi bath. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice... More

Visited for dinner - the food was ok but nothing special. Unfortunately the service was very slow - had to wait 45 minutes between ordering and the arrival of the main course. Gave up on ordering dessert as a result - couldn't face another wait. Disappointing.

Positives: clean room, comfortable beds, heated towel rack and thermostat that worked well under our own control, and it was quiet with blackout curtains essential for sleeping in the summer. Biggest negative - the bathroom smelled bad. There were also service issues at both breakfast and dinner - very slow service and little things like not bringing milk for five... More

Spent one night in this hotel. The lobby was nice, the room spacious, and the lounge welcoming. We did not have dinner at Victoria Restaurant(not to our palate), but the bar was cool(we were told they would be licensed for families next year). Breakfast was good, but they appeared short staffed. Good location in downtown Kirkwall. Car park located at... More
