The rooms are very shabby-I had the "executive double"-bit of a joke. Stained bedcover, shabby carpetsand furniture plus dirty shower. The man on reception was really pleasant but the girl must have missed the training day on customer care. Basic breakfast with only choice being how you like your eggs. Try the Sands Hotel in Burray ,around 10 miles away.... more

I was staying there for a one night business trip, but found the whole hotel in need of a revamp. The room on the 3rd floor was of poor quality and shabby. The furniture very old. The bed was one of those your grannie would have thrown out years ago, ( along with the quiltcover !) and it was brick... more

I should note that, for obvious reasons, I didn't stay long enough to sample the food/ breakfast or evaluate the noise levels etc. I turned up on spec - was handed a key (by a very surly receptionist) to a truly awful room. This had everything that is bad about scottish hotels - small room, tiny bed, cold, very very... more

Stayed in the Kirkwall Hotel last weekend with a friend, we were up visiting old friends & booked in here for three nights. Got a great deal 3 nights for the price of 2 so that was a bonus. Breakfast was lovely & the staff seemed very friendly. Will be back in April for another visit & will definatley stay... more

It's a good location on the harbour. The rooms are OK (though I thought £90 for single occupancy of a double with harbour view at a 3* was a bit over-priced). The restaurant is very good value and quality for hotel dining. If only the staff smiled a bit, and engaged in conversation with their customers! It's amazing how a... more

We have just returned from a great stay in Orkney, which was only marred by two things : firstly the weather on some days being rather wet and windy (but great when the sun shines !), and secondly our stay at the Kirkwall Hotel ! I hadn't realised until I stayed there how good the breakfasts were at the many... more

GBP80.00 for a single night (single occupancy of a twin room). I chose the hotel because of the close proximity to the Ferry for the early (07.00) boat to Westray next morning. Room had no view. Hotel has been renovated but is still bland and without character. On checking in, I was informed I would be unable to eat in... more

Apparently the hotel has been refurbished - certainly not the room I was in. The carpets were frayed and torn, the furniture was ancient, and the bathroom tiny. Staff were rude, on arriving for breakfast the waitress looked at us and said "Oh my God". The bedroom was above a bar with loud music which played until 1.00a.m. Lunch was... more
