This is a grand old hotel in a wonderful location with views overlooking the pier. We stayed on the second floor overlooking the harbour. The location is right in Kirkwall - walking distance to everything, including St Magnus cathedral. We had free wifi and free car-parking at the front door. Loved this hotel, it has an old-fashioned feel and lots... More

Myself and my husband arrived the weekend of our anniversary with keen high expectations, and although our room was very comfortable, and the view was lovely, the restaurant was a complete disaster. The room was vast, no atmosphere, and very quiet. For a restaurant, I can honestly say that I have never been to a worse establishment. My husband and... More

I was sadly only here for one night, I would like it to have been longer. The hotel has a slightly old-fashioned feel, which I quite like. It was clean, and the reception staff friendly. The food was fabulous. I really really enjoyed being able to eat locally sourced food, and it was all beautifully cooked and presented by knowledgeable... More

We stayed here for a night whilst transitting between islands There is plenty of parking outside and the hotel has a very imposing presence. We were on the third floor with a good view of the harbour. The lift is a bit old fashioned but fully functioning and there are stairs anyway. The room was a good size with plenty... More

Stayed with the dog for two nights very happy with everything nice room fold out TV couch and double bed ensuite too. Room large and comfortable and bed comfortable too. Hotel restaurant had excellent food, and at 45 pound for two three course meals reasonably priced. Would stay hear again, very pleasant experience.

I like this hotel and it's convenient location, I have stayed here many times and only really have one gripe - on the third floor the showers are rubbish, the water pressure ensures the otherwise great hotel down. I have always found the staff exceptional and the food excellent. Will be back

An old family run hotel that has faded grandeur. A bit squeaky, floors and doors, but spacious and warm with a comfortable bed, flat screen WiFi and tea/coffee making facilities. Bathroom a bit dated with shower only but good hot water and towels. The bar acts as an overflow from the dining room so we went next door to Skippers, part... More

After reading trip advisor reviews, I was a little anxious about my stay here, but I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. I have stayed in a lot of hotels, and this was a very reasonable 3* hotel which was in a perfect location for exploring Kirkwall and around the island. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. I had some of... More

This hotel really should be a lot better. The lift to my room was very old and once I got to the door of my room there was a large crack all the way down as if someone had went at it with an axe. Tape was applied to the back of the door so people couldn't look in. Not... More

For a hotel that prides itself on being the highlight of Kirkwall this was very disappointing. Terrible single room- disappointingly institutional style room with single bed, drab decor, overlooking taxi rank which was noisy. Bathroom a disgrace. No shower. Window sealed shut so no ventilation. Grubby bath. Unappealing paint and no attempt to make it even remotely homely. £80/ night!!!... More
