Very helpful staff. Clean and safe. Normal Scottish decor. Had dinner here 2 nights, the food was very good and the portions are huge. Cooked breakfasts were also big. Very central within walking distance of all the town's attractions. I have no complaints and had a lovely stay here. more

The initial impression of a slightly shabby down-at-heel hotel were soon dispelled by great hospitality and excellent food both for breakfast and dinner with good wines. The place was well organised with capable local staff. As a whisky group we were very happy with our three night stay; the bar was lively at night. more

I stayed at the Ayre with a small archeological touring group. We had breakfast and dinner each day for the week of our tour. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the hotel, not to mention the tour itself, in a room on the top floor overlooking the harbour. Service was friendly, room was clean, and food was quite good, especially... more

My daughter and I, traveling together with an archaeological tour group, especially appreciated our lovely room overlooking the harbor, the helpful service whenever we needed it, the very accommodating waitresses in the dining room, and the excellent chef who even several times prepared things especially to our orders that were not on the menu. more

Renovations were going on while we were there, so there was no adequate lounge accommodation, but our bedroom was so pleasant to be in that this didn't much matter. The place was clean, food was excellent, the staff pleasant and very willing. more

The staff were pleasant and the hotel was clean, however my room was too small for a hamster and even the best contortionist could not use the toilet properly. The hotel is ideally situated for the city but it fails in service both my breakfasts were disasterous with the first days yoghurt coming complete with a 10mm (not kidding) turf... more

We arrived early from the airport and were cheerfully greeted. We were served tea while we waited for our day tour of the island to pick us up. When we returned in the afternoon, the luggage was in our room. As noted, the food could not have been better. We walked from the hotel to the Museum (don't miss it!!!).... more

An old building refurbished to an excellent modern standard - comfortable, quiet with excellent views, a first class restaurant much appreciated by our French Catalan group (who know their food) and best of all run by real Orcadians who get five stars for charm, helpfulness and organisation - definitely the best place in town more
