We stayed overnight here in mid-July on our way from Dorset north to Islay. This is definitely a highly recommended hostelry, with fantastic food. Our evening meal (slow roast shoulder of pork with trimmings) was absolutely excellent - as was the scrummy breakfast. The hosts were so attentive and friendly and we enjoyed the political banter with Mark. Morag is... More

great hosts and food in an atmospheric gastro pub. A welcome update on Scottish Politics for exiled Scots was most welcome. Bedrooms most comfortable. Loved the breakfasts with good conversation. Ian & Anne Vancouver, Canada

I could write and write and write about how fantastic this cosy, charming, fun, beautiful little gem of a inn is but ill refrain because i wont do it justice. Read all the reviews...believe all the good press...then times by TEN. I've worked in big fancy hotels restaurants and bars and i could not fault anything about this place. Seeing... More

We picked this place to break our journey to Lochs and Oban. It is a nice little place to stay quite remote. We had evening meals which were very well prepared, our only criticisms are service is a bit slow and both nights we just had boiled potatoes with the meal we like to have some other vegetables with them.... Many thanks for your review – we're really glad you enjoyed your stay and that Thomas our Welsh Terrier wasn't too over-exuberant. We're sorry you felt the service was slow – we work on the basis that the table is 'yours' for the night so there's no rush to leave. On the food side, our pan finished buttered new potatoes... We needed somewhere special to stay on our way back from Scotland, as it was our 45th Wedding Anniversary, the Sapphire Wedding I am told. Skipping quickly over the absence of sapphires, we found The Hightae Inn on the internet. It was near the A74 between Lockerbie and Dumfries, so we booked an overnight room and reserved a table in... This was our second visit to the Hightae Inn and we were not disappointed. Mark and Morag are great hosts and always very welcoming. The rooms are extremely well appointed, with wonderful bed linens. The beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms very quiet. The food at the Hightae Inn is always of a high standard. The evening meals are... More

We stopped here again on our way down South due to the wonderful experience we had previously, and delighted to say Mark and Morag are still exceling themselves. To provide such a high class of food and service and still maintain a very relaxing ambience is a great quality. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves again, great night's sleep due to very... More

This is truly one of the best places we have ever stayed. We will definitely return. The evening meal and breakfast was beautiful, particularly the Salmon !! Thankyou again Mark and Morag for making our stay so good.

Just a one night stopover on the way north... what a pity we didn't have longer to explore both the area and the host's sense of humour. Very comfortable rooms, our evening meal & breakfast were excellent, shame I didn't have time to make my way through the 'Gin Menu'....

This is one of Scotland's finest and I thoroughly recommend a stay. A wonderful welcome, beautiful clean and comfortable rooms with all the extra touches that make a hotel 1st class. We dined on the Saturday evening and the food was amazing! Homemade and cooked to order, and at brilliant value for money. The breakfast the next morning was also... More
