This place could be so lovely but it needs to close down and be completely refurbished, maybe to change hands. Loads of potential but everything is tired, tatty and dated. There were clear black finger marks on our bathroom door and the shaving from a make up pencil on the floor so it isn't even very clean. We took one... more

We were told that there would be water and fruit in the room, we had to request it and we ended up with 2 apples and a tangerine! the room was tatty and old fashioned, which we could put up with but not at £90 per night! The dust in the room was dreadful. It was all over the tea... more

We stayed at Wisteria Hotel Oakham, Rutland on 15 & 16th February 2008. I had mixed feelings about this hotel: While our room was warm, clean and a decent size it was a little dated and “tatty around the edges” The bottled water & a few of pieces of fresh fruit on tea/coffee tray was a nice touch. Our view... more

We booked the hotel from the web (checking out reviews on here and elsewhere) and I can now confirm/reiterate what a good little hotel this is. We only stayed there as a base as my boyfriend was doing the Vitreuvian Triathlon (half iron man) at Rutland Water - so arrived fairly late on Friday evening. The restaurant stops doing food... more

A group of us stayed here prior to a visit in the area. We found this to be a very comfortable hotel, nice rooms, good food and good value. It has its own private car park set back from the road, and felt secure. The building is a combination of old and new, with the public rooms in the old... more

We stayed at the Old Wisteria for our Ruby Wedding anniversary and couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. The hotel owners, Debbie and Amed, and staff were all very friendly. Our bedroom was in the more modern part of the hotel and was clean and comfortable. Meals were taken in the older part of the hotel which was... more

We are very glad we did not see the 1 review on this hotel posted in Jan 06 as we would not have stayed and would have missed a most pleasant, friendly welcoming hotel with character , together with excellent friendly service and quality food. The chef obviously knows what he is doing and catered for a gluten free diet... more

The Old Wisteria hotel looks charming on the photos on it's website. Oakham is a lovely country town, and this hotel looked an ideal place to stay, Sadly, it has to go down as a classical awful rip off English hotel. Where to start with the negatives: 1- The price - £60 for a room with no breakfast! 2- Breakfast... more
