Nov 6, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

My wife and I stayed here for the weekend with friends. Our room was in the main building and was very tastefully decorated and very clean. The only criticism was that the lights in the bathroom were a little dim, but I think that was due to the use of low energy bulbs. The room was really clean. Our evening... more

Slightly tired in places. Double glazing unit blown in our room, spotted others also. Bed not very comfortable or very large. Connection to heated towel rail damaged. Food in bar ok. Bar waiter (Paulo from Portugal) excellent. Breakfast disappointing, food all dried up and not very hot, as if cooked previous night or very early that morning. (we were there... more

Sep 29, 2009 | Trip type: Family

Stayed with husband, family and friends to attended a local wedding over 2 days. Beautiful setting as you drive in, well kept gardens but from there on it in it's downhill all the way. The rooms are very small, old and dated, bathroom no ventilation, unbelievably hot. Expected far more for the price they charge, no mini bar, some of... more

Stayed for one night on a late booking before moving on to The George of Stamford (another excellent Hotel) and since it was the Barnsdale's last room we were apprehensive considering earlier reviews but we need not have worried. The room was fine, very light, clean and with a lake view. The grounds are superbly kept and spo peaceful -... more

Superb location Room (447) cleaned well BUT so dark difficult to read anything (impossible after nightfall if you sit in the chairs!) - take couple of 100w bulbs with you. Bathroom - shower unsuitable for anyone over 5ft 6ins as you will bang you head on sloping ceiling - needs a grab rail to get in bath - again lighting... more

How pleased I am that the other hotel in the area with a similar name was full! All we needed was somewhere to eat and sleep for one night, so we decided that for £60 with breakfast, free parking, two restaurants, bar etc. it couldn't be that bad. (We had read the poor reviews.) All I can say is IGNORE... more

We stayed at Barnsdale Hall Hotel for 1 night as we were attending a wedding reception at Barnsdale Lodge just over the road. We booked a 'Deluxe Double' (£135 for B&B) and there was nothing deluxe about it at all. The only positive comments I have about Room 616 are that the room was a decent size, the bathroom was... more

As you draw up to Barnsdale Hall it is very impressive but from our own experience and other reviews, it seems that you have to be very lucky to get a half way decent room. Ours was in a building away from the main one and I can honestly say that it was the most depressing hotel room I hav... more
