We stayed here for one night on Saturday 4th April and had a lovely break from the normal hussle and bustle of our daily lives. John and Jenny are perfect hosts and make you feel so welcome. The rooms are well kept and really clean and although the bed was a little hard for our liking I'm sure that's just... more

Spent 3 nights at the Portland Guest House - Jenny and John were very welcoming, kind and attentive. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. There was plenty to choose from for breakfast and the food was well cooked using good quality local ingredients. The location was good, we were able to tour around the area easily and there is... more

We're really grateful for this lovely review from Sarah. Our fire alarm went off at 1 a.m. during their stay. A malfunction fortunately but a bit scary all the same! So it's very kind of her not to mention that as it was freezing cold that night - just as well we provide thick towelling robes - not for that...

We stayed in the Monmouth suite which has an amazingly comfortable 4-poster bed and huge bathroom - the whole thing was probably bigger than our house. The breakfast is fantastic, especially the home made muesli with apricot compote!! The hosts, Jenny and John, are extremely friendly and welcoming (without being overbearing!) and made it like a home from home. There... more

We booked the guest house for New Years Eve and New Years Day to celebrate my parents 60th ( Diamond Wedding Anniversary). The owners ( Jenny and John) looked after us all exceptionally well, providing us with a very personal service and making sure all ages from 11-85 were well cared for. It was a party of 16 and everyone... more

Just returned from a two night stay at the Portland Guest House. The real bonus for us was the spacious family accommodation of the Ross Suite. The suite has a large double room joined directly to a room with two single beds and an en suite bathroom. The setup is perfect for families with young children - plenty of space... more

Arrived to a great welcome. Our 4 poster bed, big bath tub and good sized room was a lovely surprise. Amazing breakfast, along with some funny/gruesome stories to set us on our way. The hospitality made us feel like we were staying with a dear aunt! Area is amazing, fully recommend the cider trail. more

Arriving on a bank holiday weekend was probably not the best for travelling but as soon as we arrived the welcome and atmosphere of the house made it all worth while. The area is full of scenery that takes your breath away. Breakfast was superb, locally sourced ingredients and much of it home made such as bread and jam. We... more

A lovely break with fantastic hosts. The beautiful scenery is matched by the wonderful greeting bestowed on you upon your arrival and this is maintained throughout your stay and manifests itself in amazing breakfasts supplied locally by produce grown and reared within miles of the guest house. For all walkers, golfers and countryside lovers this place is a must. more
