I’ve stayed at Portland House twice this year; in the Great Snow of February and last month in the Great Rain of November. One day I’ll stay there when the sun is shining. The important thing is that when you are in the house (and it’s a jolly old rambling affair) the owners (equally jolly but not a bit old... more

A perfect guest who we look forward to seeing again and again. The biscuit in the room was actually a yummy home made Welsh cake!

This is a s gem of a place. Service is excptional. Breakfast excellent. Our room had the 4 poster bed which was extremely comfortable. Situated about 7 miles south of Ross on Wye on the Monmouth Road. Easy access to many beauty sposts. Would reccommend to anyone. The owners could not have been more helpful. more

Spending time at Portland is like going to see a set of good friends who are willing to pamper to all your needs. A wonderful location for the outdoor life of the Welsh borders, perfect for those looking to walk or, as we have done over recent years, spend time on the many local splendid golf courses. John and Jenny... more

We stayed here for one night on Saturday 4th April and had a lovely break from the normal hussle and bustle of our daily lives. John and Jenny are perfect hosts and make you feel so welcome. The rooms are well kept and really clean and although the bed was a little hard for our liking I'm sure that's just... more

Spent 3 nights at the Portland Guest House - Jenny and John were very welcoming, kind and attentive. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. There was plenty to choose from for breakfast and the food was well cooked using good quality local ingredients. The location was good, we were able to tour around the area easily and there is... more

We're really grateful for this lovely review from Sarah. Our fire alarm went off at 1 a.m. during their stay. A malfunction fortunately but a bit scary all the same! So it's very kind of her not to mention that as it was freezing cold that night - just as well we provide thick towelling robes - not for that...

We stayed in the Monmouth suite which has an amazingly comfortable 4-poster bed and huge bathroom - the whole thing was probably bigger than our house. The breakfast is fantastic, especially the home made muesli with apricot compote!! The hosts, Jenny and John, are extremely friendly and welcoming (without being overbearing!) and made it like a home from home. There... more

We booked the guest house for New Years Eve and New Years Day to celebrate my parents 60th ( Diamond Wedding Anniversary). The owners ( Jenny and John) looked after us all exceptionally well, providing us with a very personal service and making sure all ages from 11-85 were well cared for. It was a party of 16 and everyone... more

Just returned from a two night stay at the Portland Guest House. The real bonus for us was the spacious family accommodation of the Ross Suite. The suite has a large double room joined directly to a room with two single beds and an en suite bathroom. The setup is perfect for families with young children - plenty of space... more
