Stopped for Sunday lunch, expecting it to be busy, but was totally the opposite. Can imagine it being really nice to sit outside by the river in the summer, but indoors it was a bit dingy. Roast dinner was £5.75, so can't grumble at the price and it tasted pretty good, so no complaints. Definitely, did the job

The pub is in a perfect location beside the river but doesn't make the most of this position. It could be so good but the interior is dark, grubby looking & looks like it needs a good freshen up. The rooms are in a separate building a short uphill walk away. Cars are parked at pub level & it was... More

On a sunny day this riverside pub comes into its own with a nice garden leading to the river. They also serve a decent pint of beer: Jennings bitter is not easy to find in the South and the pint was welcome and enjoyable. I wish I could say more in its favour. The food was cheap catering-pack and fried... More

Dropped in for lunch with the family on Thursday around 12 noon. If it was based on looks then we probably wouldn't have stopped but there was a nice garden over looking the river and the staff seem nice and friendly and a good menu available. We ordered lasagne, spaghetti & meatballs, and macaroni cheese for the little one. Half... More

What a superb spot by the river, inside was a bit of a rabbit warren but we ordered and sat outside. We both had sandwiches which I am amazed at how hard some places find it to do. Not a great variety so I ordered the cheese and pickle, hardly any cheese and very dry bread, other half had a... More

It was like going back to the 80s and that may have been the last time the place was refurbished. Service was nice enough but the place needs a thorough updating, cleaning etc. There are lots of places in Ross on Wye so go somewhere else!!

The location of this pub is its best asset - but when you walk in it is a bit off putting the whole place needed a good clean and up dating which is a shame given the fantastic location - we ordered food at the bar and sat outside by the river the food was very quick in arriving which... More

We must have been doubly unlucky according to other peoples reviews. Having been twice to the pub and ordered food to eat outside in the garden. The first time we had to wait 40 minutes for a toasted baguette, whitebait and duck spring rolls and the second time 1hr and 20minutes for jacket potato, whitebait, and two hotdogs. The hotdogs... Beautiful location, had high hopes walking upto it. Barman took our order of food about 7.30pm I ordered the chilli con carne, my partner had the lasagne. We told the barman we would sit outside. Within 5 minutes our food was out. Too quick in my opinion. Must of been thrown in microwave. And for long as it was cold... More

If you are ever in Ross you definitely can't go wrong with a visit to the Hope and Anchor. The pub is situated in an amazing location - right alongside the river Wye and you can be sure of a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The food is your typical pub grub; tasty, well cooked and plenty of it! The service... More
