We stayed in Ross on Wye for two nights and after eating here on the first night decided to go back there on the second as it was so successful. It seems like basically just an average local pub but the food is well cooked and very tasty. Highly recommended.

Have been to this pub many times over the years and was expecting a nice, sturdy Sunday lunch with plenty of atmosphere. There was no Sunday lunch on offer, the food we had was very poor, the service was bordering on rude and apart from a few guys playing pool it was deserted. PLEASE bring this fabulous pub back to... Visited today (30th June). Very hot day so outside seating by river was perfect. Drinks were good too but was let down by the food. The baguette that accompanied our salad seemed stale and not really like bread. The toilet area as others have said is grubby and tatty. Would definitely have another drink there but not eat there again

stopped here yesterday for lunch on a trip from Cardiff to York. First time in Ross on Wye. We walked along the river and decided to stop for a drink and have some lunch. My husband ordered the fish and chips and when the meal arrived it was appeared to be a frozen piece of fish such as is sold... More

I decided to stop here for lunch as I had remembered the Hope and Anchor as being a lovely pub by the river. However, I was shocked by how run down it has become and the grubby interiors put me off ordering any food. It's a shame as its in such an excellent location.

Today a large group of mixed adults and kids visited this pub this afternoon for a spot of lunch. Plenty of space in a big room upstairs with nice views over the river. So far so good. We ordered our food at the bar which was easy and straightforward. Twenty mins later the food arrived. I had a tuna jacket... More

The rooms are not in the pub itself as we thought but separate, to get to them from the pub you had to walk up a steep hill and downs some steep stairs, so it would be no good for Anyone disabled or has trouble getting up and downstairs. our room had a double bed, drawers that I would have... Stopped for Sunday lunch, expecting it to be busy, but was totally the opposite. Can imagine it being really nice to sit outside by the river in the summer, but indoors it was a bit dingy. Roast dinner was £5.75, so can't grumble at the price and it tasted pretty good, so no complaints. Definitely, did the job

The pub is in a perfect location beside the river but doesn't make the most of this position. It could be so good but the interior is dark, grubby looking & looks like it needs a good freshen up. The rooms are in a separate building a short uphill walk away. Cars are parked at pub level & it was... More
