We didn't realise this place actively welcomes dogs, so were a bit overwhelmed with so many in the bar, but it didn't smell doggie, they were well behaved and the dog owners were lovely. We chose the Port Light as it is better value than those in Salcombe itself and has superb views. The bathroom was brand new, the room... more

Almost a dog required hotel. Comfortable rooms, great food (world class quality), friendly staff. Your dogs stay with you in your room, sit with you in the dining room, come with you on long beautiful coastal walks. A real break for you and your four-legged buddies. Very isolated but within a few minutes drive of Salcombe and Hope Cove more

Beautifully situated on the top of Bigbury Down with breathtaking views down the coast into Cornwall & loads of space to walk the dog. Mind you it is certainly invigorating when the wind gets up, but that's a price worth paying for all that space. Good rooms & restaurant, but the veg could be improved. Supr staff, very friendly, just... more

The Port Light Hotel is the best small hotel we have ever visited, we have enjoyed the wonderful facilities annually for more than 20 years and will continue to do so. Great food and excellent menus, fabulous views and local walks. Sean and Hazel and the team are always friendly and very welcoming, (even after all these years of visits... more

Wonderful location just off coast path between Salocombe and Hope Cove. Cliff top and fields accessible direct from hotel grounds - great for walking especially if you have a dog. Hotel is small and staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent food courtesy of Dave and his team - great wine list. Great place to stay if you have dogs which... more

My wife and our spaniels have been visiting Portlight for the last six years. It is a very popular venue for dog lovers and walkers. Great location on the South West Coastal Path with easy access to a variety of cliff top walks. Fantastic sea and coastal views. Rooms very clean and comfortable with en-suite and free view TV. Plenty... more

We have been visiting the Port Light Hotel usually twice a year, with our dogs, since just after the present owner Sean Hassell took over. The rooms are always clean and there are no signs that there has been a dog or dogs in the room before us. The food is excellent and nothing is too much trouble. Clean towels... more

This is one of the best Dog friendly hotels in the country, offering excellent value for money, and very friendly and helpful staff. We have been going to the Port light every year for the past 9 years, and often meet other guests who have been going there for many years.Although a little off the beaten track,it is ideal for exploring the South Hams... more

The room had huge windows facing either the costal path or sea. It was very comfortable and clean with Sat TV. Plenty of coffee, tea and hot chocolate makings etc. The guest fridge downstairs for keeping items fresh is a nice touch. No need to go out as the beer is very well kept it is worthy of sampling plenty.... more

We stayed at the Port Light again this year, and were not disappointed. We have stayed here every year for the last 5 years, and have always been made to feel very welcome. The hotel's position is fabulous, the views are amazing, and the food is very good, always freshly cooked, loads of choice and lots of it! Even though... more
