Having read some of the reviews, one wonders why they went to Salcombe at all. The hotel is a little dated, but it is neither unpleasant nor unattractive. The Hotel has a fabulous location right by the beach but as soon as you walk through the door you are back in the 70's. It really does need updating.The corridors leading to the bedrooms have a musty smell to them and the feel is old fashioned. This hotel is in an ideal location, tries hard but doesn't quite make it! The rooms are not cheap and our balcony room was quite small, no minibar and dated furnishings. Lovely view of the bay but if you wanted to lie in bed in the morning with the curtains open, anyone on the next balcony could see straight in!... more

I like this hotel. It's an ugly lump of a building, but in a stunning setting right by the water, with wonderful views all round. The pool and spa area is pleasant, with wonderfully warm water on a sunny day. Food and wine good, and very decently they upgraded my single room to a suite without me asking for it.... more
