Booked in at relatively short notice for a five-day break, and was promised a luxury experience based on the hotel's website and a premium price. The promise was not delivered! The room was basic, the shower never worked properly, the hot tap was faulty, and the room smelt of either Jeyes' fluid or damp - not sure which. A king-size... more

I booked this hotel for our Wedding Anniversary. It looked great on the web, but I wish I had read the reviews beforehand. The room was alright, good size and great views of the estuary. However it looked a bit tatty and in need of TLC. We were told on arrival that we could not book the restaurant for 7.30pm... more

This hotel is either in a state of improvement or decline. Being positive I would say that improvement is more likely. We had a estuary facing room on the third floor. This was large spacious room with balcony. The room itself was very clean and the bed very comfortable. The furniture was of an older style and the TV was... more

Once again we paid our annual visit to Salcombe and stayed at the Marine hoping for an improvement since we stayed last year. Also it is the only hotel in Salcombe so no choice! How this 4 star rated hotel exists I fail to understand. A 3 star rating would be too generous. I understand that the whole place is... more

Frequent visitor to Devon - normally stay in Dartmouth - but decided at last minute to have a short break in Salcombe. Chose The Marine Hotel as it seemed to be the best in the area. Great location with fabulous views of the estuary. Room ok although overall space, and especially the bathroom, quite small. Service level reasonable although one... more

My wife and I stayed here 3 nights, Sept .30 - Oct .2 It was OK but not a hotel we would revisit. The doors from the bedroom to the balcony were held together with two rusty L-shaped brackets as the wooden frame was rotten. The bottom pane of glass itself was held in with duck tape. I always thought... more

We booked for one night and we were thoroughly disappointed. The room was small, shabby and in desperate need of refurbishment; the staff were incredibly rude; the service, appalling. Our disappointment worsened at breakfast - there were plenty of tables by the window but the manageress refused to let us sit at one of them and enjoy the spectacular view... more

stayed here for one night on touring holiday after visiting the scilly isles. Great location with stunning views over the bustling estuary. Salcombe is a pretty town very popular with teenagers and their families who enjoy sailing. The hotel feels like you have stepped back in time and is in need of refurbishment to bring it into the 21st century.... more

We stayed just one night at the Marine Hotel, Fabulous views, the food was good. However, the hotel was really shabby and needed a face lift. The room we had was small and needed updating. The Leisure Club was very disappionting, it was dirty, the pool was "cloudy"- so we gave this a miss. The steam room was very, very... more
