This was a last minute overnight stay thro LateRooms....who failed to tell us that checkins are after 6pm....but the wait was well worth it . The ambience of the bar/restaurant & friendliness of all the staff were wonderful. The Pie of the Day magnificent and someone had put lots of thought into providing comfortable, well planned rooms and sympathetic furnishjings.... more

We stayed two nights in early December at the Helyar Arms. First off, the food was wonderful! We ate most of our meals there over the course of two days and everything was well prepared and tasty. A lot of care obviously goes into the menu and food selections, even the locally produced ales were a treat to sample. Our... more

Weather was really awful and we were going on to a firework display so when I was collected from the train my friend and I really needed to go somewhere warm and welcoming. Arrived at the pub and the door was open but the staff ignored us for a few minutes. A pleasant young chef eventually spotted us and told... more

Booked The Helyar Arms on the website, as somewhere to stay when we ( I and Deb) went to Sherborne Castle for the firework display on 1st November. When we arrived the bar was shut as it was closed from 3 til 6, so turned away, not even being offered our room, which wasn't available til 6. Felt put out... more

Stopped here many nights while working away. Once found, it became the preference place to stay. Nice rooms, clean soft sheets, breakfast acceptable, evening meals very good. Double rooms much better than singles, doubles just big enough, singles quite small. En-suite shower small, but OK, unlimited hot water, but shower pump noisy. In the bar and restaurant, well kept real... more

The pub was located in a lovely village and we were attended to promptly on our arrival. However In the morning neither the shower or bathroom light worked so as a friend had another room rented I had to use their bathroom when they had vacated the room along the corridor and my husband did not have time to have... more

The Helyar Arms is in a lovely position just outside Yeovil in East Coker. We walked to the church, but it was closed so TS Elliott will have to wait until another time! The pub building is lovely and the skittle alley quaint. Americans would love the whole thing. Our family room was well laid out, but only had a... more

My husband and I during a trip to England from South Africa, wanted to go to see T S Eliot's memorial in East Coker, so we drove there and arrived one summer's evening in 2002. We booked our room first at The Helyar Arms and then went along to the church where the memorial is. We came back and had... more
