My wife and I stayed here for five nights while on business travel. Whately (pronounced Wait-lee) is a beautiful old building dating back to the mid-1600's. The garden behind, and a pub with outdoor tables in front, make it a wonderful place to enjoy the ambience. The floors do creak and one feels surrounded in history; in fact, according to... more

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a week over Easter. The hotel is very old and used to be an old coaching inn from days gone by. It even has a room with a priest hole from the days of Catholic persecution. The first room we were given was lovely with oak beams and views over the... more

Stayed for two nights as a leisure break with husband. Cannot fault this hotel. Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was spacious, clean with all the amenities you could wish for. We had a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the gardens and it was lovely and peaceful. Breakfast was varied and plentiful and service was excellent. The... more

We stayed for two nights at the Mercure Whately Hall Hotel for a New Year Murder Mystery run by Joy Swift (www.murder.co.uk). The murder was great but a holiday break at any time would be worthwhile at this olde worlde coaching inn. The frontage of the hotel and the main public rooms are orginal but most of the bedrooms are... more

Stayed for one night and thought the hotel excellent, if a little tired. Great room, v. clean with an excellent bathroom and two comfortable chairs (important this - how many double bedded rooms just have one decent chair?). Did not eat there as the dinner and breakfast both seemed expensive. V. friendly staff, especially the chamber maids who wished us... more

Although beautiful from the outside and some nice interiors this hotel is in desperate need of a refurb. We stayed for a friends wedding as the wedding party were at the hotel (although the wedding wasn't held here thank goodness!). The wedding started at 3 and the hotel check in was 2 so we were on a tight schedule. When... more

My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night while visiting friends in Banbury. Overall, the place is fine, but badly in need of a lick of paint. Best bits: The hotel looks stunning from the outside. A beautiful old building that dominates the road, with a huge garden in the rear. It is also in a great location for... more

I booked this hotel for a party of 7 for a small family get together. Generally, the hotel was excellent. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful although it was clear they were short staffed due to a large Wedding party. The rooms were comfortable and clean, although no consideration seemed to be made on room allocation, our single party... more
