First visit to The Old Hall but probably won't be the last. The hotel is old and a little quirky. Our room was clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. Had our evening meal in the wine bar and the food was fantastic and there was a good choice of beers too. Breakfast was also very good. This... More

We stayed in buxton for one night for our wedding anniversary and were pleased with our choice of hotel. The staff were polite and friendly on arrival. The room was clean and comfortable the slope on the bathroom floor quite comical. Breakfast in the morning was well cooked and had a good choice of quality ingredients. I would definitely visit... Doing a tour of properties related to Bess of Hardwick and the Earl of Shrewsbury, I was excited to see that the Old Hall Hotel was built in 1573 by the Earl of Shrewsbury. When taking the waters at Buxton, several courtiers such as Robert Dudley, the favourite of Elizabeth I stayed here. Mary Queen of Scots also stayed here... More

The Old Hall Buxton is a wonderful place to stay, overflowing with history and character (and ideally placed for the beautiful Opera House Theatre) We were greeted by the lady on reception, who quickly sorted our parking and check-in details and given our keys to rooms 5 & 6 (classic doubles), which, Luckily were on the First Floor as unfortunately... Such a wonderful, historic place - beautifully appointed with all modern amenities, great charm and ambiance, centrally located in the Peaks, lovely view out our window onto the park. Just the sort of step back in time we crave when we go to the U.K., but no compromises on comfort/convenience. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Lots of young staff about, but the service was dreadful. The lift was out of order and apparently had been for weeks, with the average age of guests seemingly well over retirement that was a serious black mark. The Chef de Cuisine prepared excellent food, spoiled by being served cold - he deserves a better establishment. Breakfast had lots of... More

Our first stop in UK and boy was it amazing. Truly enjoyed the rooms, food and service. One of the different hotels I have ever stayed. It is a small place but well located. Food was typically english and excellent all round. Truly a delightful stay.
