I arrived at the hotel at 7 am on Saturday morning after a 2 hr drive and no sleep the previous night. The gentleman on the front desk was very friendly, polite and helpful. I was there for a wedding but hadn't booked the hotel as I wasn't expecting not to sleep the previous night. The hotel was full but... More

We booked a spa at this hotel. On arrival it all looks very grand but walking down the corridors to the spa it became evident that this hotel is in need of refurbishment, the decor is very dated and tatty. The spa area was v dated, worn towels, lockers that didn't lock, musty, damp smells and very dark pool area... More

The Palace has just been taken over by the Britannia Group and they need to act quickly to get the place sorted. Breakfast was little short of chaotic, seemingly due to shortage of staff, and the general feel of the place was that of faded elegance. The building itself is quite magnificent and the rooms are fairly spacious but it... More

This hotel has clearly been a place of grandeur. No more I'm afraid. We booked a two night break costing over £250. The first bedroom was very shabby and the bathroom permeated a bad smell. We were offered another room that was little better. Even though the bedroom was shabby there was no excuse for it to be unclean. The... More

Excellent location base for the Peak district. Victorian Grandeur. Staff helpful but could be a little cheerier. Public area magnificent, Lovely bar and dining area. Rooms are very clean but a little tired. The hotel could do with a good lick of paint to freshen up the place. One major gripe. Why does a paying guest of the hotel have... More

Imagine coming back from a hard day walking and touring the Peak District. The sun is warm and you want to sit amongst some trees having a wee drink or two before deciding what to do for dinner. You decide to forgo the quaint architectural charms of the hotel itself, but wander down the path to the main road which... More

This hotel is in serious need of a refurbishment - it looks like something the 80's would be proud of. It's an impressive building but the owners need to invest some money and time to drag it up to date in all areas. The wifi is virtually non-existent so don't bother trying to log on to it (there were issues... More

We stayed here on a Superbreak deal, Friday & Saturday night with dinner on the first night for less than £200. We enjoyed our stay, yes the hotel is a bit tired in places but still has the air of grandeur - particularly in the public areas. There was a bucket collecting water in on of the corridors - but... Attended here with a friend on a spa break. Initially was going to stay 2 nights but very glad we didn't. Firstly, the facilities should not be advertised as a spa. The pool is very small, the steam room and sauna an afterthought with no hot tub. After 20 minutes, we were done. The layout echoes other reviews although respected... More

We revisited for a similar walking to last year, fresh in the knowledge that the place has changed hands, and thus expecting better things. One can but hope. Our room was en suite, just. The loo, twixt bath and wall would not work for anyone of a "robust" stature. The gap between bath was about eighteen inches, and work involved... More
