Firstly the location is great, very central, minutes away from the Crescent, Park & Opera House. We parked off the hotel to avoid charges about 5 minutes away, plentiful free (on street)parking just past the Devonshire Dome. Other greats, our room view - overlooked the town, guess we were just lucky on that front. Breakfast itself was great, good choice... More

The Palace is a charming and characterful hotel and one of my favourites. The rooms are old fashioned but good with everything you need. However there has been a deterioration in the food quality, standards and service in the restaurant and now you no longer get a choice of bread with your meal. You have to order it and pay... More

Premium prices, economy rooms, service and breakfasts. Sticking doors, sopping wet settee, insipid coffee, lack of staff, inedible buffet breakfast. The hotel promised so much and delivered so little. Will not be back.

The Palace is imposing and well situated ,especially as we had a function at the Devonshire Dome, but the Opera House as well as many other sites in Buxton are at hand. The Staff the room and the buffet breakfast choices were excellent.Parking on site is extra but well worth it for the parking on the streets around could be problematic... Having just returned from the Palace Hotel in Buxton for a short break I found the place vintage. The location cannot be better, in the centre of town and walking distance to everywhere, The hotel was very grand although a little tired. You can see and feel the opulence and glamorous place it once was, from the sweeping staircase to... More

My wife and a freind went to this hotel with the intention of having a nice afternoon tea with sandwiches and scones etc. The first problem was the attitude of the staff in the bar area who were distinctly bored and not very polite. We eventually went out into the conservatory for our tea etc. When the cups came they... More

booked as a package, as we have stayed at Shirgy hall before. Too many things to mention with this short trip. Food was like eating in a old peoples care home our room was very dated and unsafe for our toddler as its a pull up window - if you don't have it up you can breath. Swimming pool was... More

First sight of the hotel is very impressive: Victorian architecture and landscaped gardens. The hotel inside is equally impressive. Room 315 must be a long way from the hot water tank, we had to run the taps for 5 minutes before we got any in the shower. The room ceiling had a brown water stain on it, a minor issue... More
