We stayed in August for a short two night break. We had visited earlier in the year and because we had such a wonderful time decided to book there and then for our most recent visit to Hay-on-Wye. Margaret and Jim greeted us like old friends and showed us to our "usual room", Treetowers. Everything about York House is perfect... More

We had a great stay with Jim, Margaret and their three pups (Rosie, Willow and Merlin). Our room had a view of their magnificent garden. It's a short and picturesque walk to the town center. Next time we are in town we will definitely book a place here!

We never send emails asking our guests to write a review so it is always nice when guests take time to review York House. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay, our one acre garden can be time consuming but it is well worth it when guests enjoy it! Thank you for staying with us and we hope to... More

Stayed for a long weekend this August with my partner and Mum, rooms were spotless and comfortable, with fantastic beds, and great views over the lovely garden. Breakfast was excellent, with a large choice and plenty of tea and coffee. Margaret and Jim were perfect hosts, we would defiantly stay here again.

We stayed here for three nights in July for a break. The house is very easy to find, being located on the main road into Hay, and yet the location itself was lovely and quiet. it's also located within a 5 minute walk of Hay itself, which is perfect for those wanting somewhere quiet but close to the town.We stayed... I stayed here with 2 friends during the Hay festival and we were all impressed. This B&B is ideally located a short distance from the village and the house faces away from the road so it feels like you are miles from anywhere, in fact the only noise you can hear is the birds in the garden. It is run... More

This was definitely one of the top two places that we stayed at during our 3-week trip to Wales and Scotland. We were here 3 nights in June 2014. The rooms were quiet (away from the street) and comfortable and Jim and Margaret's hospitality was exceptional. The breakfasts were always delicious. Depending on one's walking speed, it is about a... More

`This is a lovely B&B. Fantastically situated with an easy 5 minute walk into Hay on Wye. We stayed in the king-size en suite room (Tretower) which has a very comfortable bed and also has two easy chairs in the bedroom bay window with views over the beautiful gardens. We felt very welcome from the moment we arrived - Jim... More

My wife and I normally prefer hotels to B&Bs but it would be hard to fault York House. From the warm welcome from Jim and Margaret, to the lovely rooms and classy breakfasts, this place would be hard to beat. Even the tea trays in the bedrooms had really good quality biscuits instead of the usual Lichfield version. Similarly, there... More

This was our second time at York House after a three year gap. How wonderful to be remembered, to be greeted with tea and delicious homemade cake, to have the same sumptuously appointed and comfortable room, and to be made so welcome at every turn. The breakfast was outstanding for both choice and quality. The location and setting of York... More
