Wonderful host, charming location just on the edge of Hay (this isn't a bad thing, it's only a few min walk to anything). Breakfast was very good and room itself very nice. Funny old TV but in a town like this who could care less ? The shower was exceptional. more

We found "The Start" via TripAdvisor and stayed 4 nights from June 29th. The Start is in a perfect setting just the other side of Hay bridge from the town and next to the river -- Dawn's chickens, geese, ducks, and kitchen garden make it a peaceful rural location and only 5 minutes stroll from the bookshops, pubs, and restaurants.... more

We stayed here walking Offas Dyke and the name is right, The Start is just 100yards north of Hay and we were ahead of the other trail walkers. Dawn is a great hostess and gave us asound advice where to eat in Hay Excellent place, being an old building but well modernised, nice rooms, excellent breakfast more

Stayed for 3 nights, and can honestly say this was one of the best B&B stops. Dawn and Steve are very friendly, and helpful when it comes to local knowledge.
