Just when I thought the Bear couldn't get better - it did. New additions since my last trip - a huge tub of conditioner in the bathroom and an upgrade to a Wahl hairdryer. Lovely home-baked treats from David and he was on hand with a map when we planned our morning around the bookshops before checking out, after our... More

We stayed at the Bear for just one night during our walk of Offa's Dyke. Everything was perfect. The Bear is a wonderful home, lovingly created and stylishly decorated / furnished by hosts David and Andrew. They have created something very unique and special with all the extra touches and finishes, even going so far as to do our laundry... More

We stayed at the Bear for a week of sightseeing and bookshopping in and around Hay and it made a perfect base. Andrew & David were friendly and helpful with lots of suggestions of places to eat, shop and visit when we spoke to them. We were in the twin room and it was great- lots of space for two... More

We were in Hay for a wedding and had the luck to get a room for two nights at the Bear. Andrew and David are very welcoming and helpful, great hosts and great chefs. The breakfast menu was different on the two days which was a great touch and made sure we got to enjoy a range of delicious food.... More

Having recently stayed at The Bear in Hay on Wye with my wife I really wanted to leave a review of the place as it was such a fantastic experience. On arrival we were greeted by Andrew who was lovely and chatty and suggested a good number of places in which to eat/drink. Our room (room1) was like something out... More

Everything has been thought out for the comfort of the guest, from the warm welcome to the lovely rooms. The bedding is crisp white cotton with Welsh blankets, the toiletries Aran Aromatics. There's homemade cake, a great selection of teas and coffee, FRESH milk, filtered water. Breakfasts are delicious, plentiful and friendly. We've already booked for next year and may... More

My partner and I recently spent two nights at the Bear and would recommend EVERYONE stay there if it didnt mean we would never get a room again! David and Andrew were such wonderful hosts, warm, welcoming, knowledgable and hugely helpful. We are both vegetarian and the care and attention that went into the absolutely delicious breakfasts was worth the... More

My husband and I stayed for two nights at The Bear during our trip to Hay on Wye and it was an absolute pleasure. The service started months in advance when we booked, with David emailing lots of tips and recommendations before our trip. When we arrived, Andrew was just as welcoming; helping us with our bags, chatting about our... More

We stayed at The Bear for two nights and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. The room was very comfortable and had lots of character, just like the rest of this delightful B&B. The ensuite bathroom and the complementary toiletries added a touch of indulgence. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. There was a great selection of food... More

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left David and Andrew were perfect hosts offering suggestions of things to do and making time to chat to guests at breakfast time. The Bear is decorated impeccably with artwork (both weird and wonderful) and books (ditto) dotted around. The bed was incredibly comfortable with lovely linen and the choice of... More
