I stayed at the Swan several times and again this time was a nice experience. Friendly staff, classical comfortable rooms and good food. It's a bit overpriced for my taste compare to the location and overall standard. But I will come back and can recommend the place.

We've stayed at the Swan before and again found it warm and welcoming. The room was clean and even had 2 armchairs and a view while the food was very good. The staff were helpful, even going out to buy us a morning paper and carried the luggage upstairs for us, useful for 2 OAPs. For some reason, reviews seem... More

Oh dear! This hotel has seen better days and just doesn't come anywhere close to matching the quality of its competition either in Hay on Wye itself or elsewhere in the Wye Valley; (ironically it was the most expensive but worst place we stayed at on our recent trip). Carpets in public areas are frayed and woodwork is badly chipped... More

Had lunch (so good came back again) food was excellent, as was service from very friendly staff. Garden was perfect place for lunch. OK it is an old building and there will be areas requiring some TLC, but the areas I saw were tidy and clean.

Absolutely disgusted in the state of the hotel. My pictures will show the state of it. I spent a weekend and am seeking a refund.i will never stay there again. Just short of £200 for 2 nights when i could gave saved on petrol money from S Wales. Pat testing ran out 4 yrs ago and wallpaper hanging off walls.... More

We stayed at the Swan for a mature couples 'pre wedding weekend'. Our room was ready an hour early and whilst the trudge up to our room was an eye opener (frayed carpet, faded glory) and the room was flowery, it was spotlessly clean and well appointed. The ground floor of the hotel is where it's at. Very grand dining... More

My wife and I spent a night in the Swan at Hay last night sat 27th June. We booked a superior room at a cost of £145. The room while large was tatty; the television didn't work; the room was stuffy. The bed was uncomfortable; the shower was poor and the breakfast was meagre with little choice. All in all... More

A fine country hotel that has seen better days. Everything a bit tatty. Our room was in the courtyard and was noticeable by how bad the shower was - an electric 'drizzle'. A useless blind on the door meant it was very light in the morning at 5.00am The price reflected location (trendy Hay on Wye) but was very expensive... More

Last minute booking for Festival. Was delighted that secured a room which was described as Superior. Price was hefty but decided it was our only choice as the other hotel we stayed in the night before (excellent value....same price as Swan but fabulous dinner included) was full. Rooms were OK only...not Superior and shower was rubbish....unable to control temperature. Complained... More

My wife and I booked a few days away to celebrate my Birthday, we like Hay on Wye and decided on the Swan as it looked like the best hotel there, after booking in I sat on the bed I found that it was sagging in the middle and decided to take a look at the mattress, to my horror... More
