There are two entries on Trip Advisor for The George at Chepstow, one for the accommodation and one for the food, but they each seem to have comments for both so I have posted mine in each. Visited Chepstow on Sunday late afternoon after having a wonderful morning/afternoon at Dewstow Gardens. We called into Chepstow for something to eat and... More

Went to The George for a one night stay, on New Years Eve, obviously being above the pub we expected the noise. We arrived and could only pay by any card - Cash Only No Tills. No Receipts. Couldn't get out of the door on the landing, so along with some other guests we had to claim down the metal... More

Pros: cheap and cheerful. Clean. Ok breakfast. Friendly staff. Close to everything in town and Chepstow Races. Lots of screens if you want to watch the footy. Tea and coffee facilities. Cons: Room 16, the hottest room ever with the most impressive looking air con unit which was useless. If you want peace and quiet, it's not the place for... More

One of the worst places I have ever stayed in Not an experience to be repeated EVER!!! On booking there is no mention of the unsuitability of this horrendous place for children. We had to fight our way past obnoxious bouncers just to get into the building.Broken glass, drunk unruly people, ivy growing through the walls,no carparking.REALLY NASTY!!!

IT's a nightclub until 1am on Fridays, Saturdays and Bank Holidays. Therefore you must expect the young, drunken yobs, Police, noise, broken bottles, fights, noise all to be going on until past this time. Internal doors to rooms are locked prior to the start of breakfast and after hours so if you should dare to leave your room within these... More

The only plus point for this "hotel" is the excellent location near the top of the High Street, almost opposite Chepstow bus station. As noted by a customer in the past the staff did what was necessary, despite the name this is actually a large chain pub that has rooms upstairs - it is not really a hotel. Consequently very... More

Didn't think much of the food, rump steak chewy and sirloin tasteless. Stella tasted of chemicals, so took it back barmaid tasted it and agreed, seems to be a regular problem with that pump.Don't think the line was cleaned properly. The staff are friendly but probably won't return.

Slightly late posting this, and can only comment on food/bar areas. We used the George to watch almost all the Lions Rugby tour games. We were really impressed by the fact that, even when the place was stacked to the rafters (about 9 deep round the bar for the tests!), the staff were ALWAYS friendly and efficient. The food is... We recently spent a night there after a birthday party just up the road from the George,it was just perfect 3/4 mins and we were in our room. When we came back from our party i thought we wouldn't get much sleep because it was buzzing in the pub and our room was at the front of the building but we... What a lovely place The George is, the staff were very helpful and friendly. I booked my Dad's 80th Birthday meal here for 15 adults and 2 children and they all thoroughly enjoyed the food, the service and the friendly staff. I must add that the bill at the end was pleasing too, very reasonable! I have returned since this... More
