Really nice place. Good selection of beer and a welcoming landlord. Excellent views of the river, the castle, and the old bridge. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a decent drink and a friendly atmosphere.

I liked this building, with its rustic charm, old stone and woodwork. Its situation by the river is ideal for watching the tide surge in and out. My room was fine, though the shower was fairly average. Breakfast was great, with half of it being help-yourself, and half of it cooked to order. It was just a bit to pricey... More

We went to Chepstow to meet my family, who arranged Bed and Breakfast and the evening meal Craige became a friend in a very short while, rooms and food good value for money, and very convienient to the castle and a river walk and the town. We had a lovely time. When the weather is good there is a garden... More

We ended our weekend in Wales with a lovely lunch at the Afon Gwyn, friendly service and absolutely no complaints, and considering we were late for lunch (3ish) and the fact that there was 11 of us full stars all round. We will definitely be returning :)

After spending a lovely morning walking around Chepstow and its castle we decided to stop for some lunch. Well we should have guessed as soon as we walked into the pub that this was not going to go well. ! They had run out of baguettes, cheese and numerous other foods, the chef couldnt remember the orders, food was being returned,... More

We visited Afon Gwy today for Sunday lunch and ad a fabulous time. This was not our first visit and won't be our last. Craig and Sam are most welcoming, the fires made it all warm and welcoming on this cold February Sunday and the roasts were better than home made. My husband had the roast pork with cider apple... I stayed at the Afon Gwy over the summer when working in the area. Nothing seemed to be to much trouble for Graig and his lovely wife. The accommodation is very clean and tidy and the restaurant food was excellent. Its over looking the river and I spent many a night with a drink in hand and a bit of... More

On arrival we were greeted by the owner of the Afon Gwy who shared jokes with us and was generally very warming and welcoming. He carried on conversing with us whilst introducing us to the waitress who showed us to our table in the very accommodating and superbly homely restaurant. Another lady, the owners partner, came down to the table... More

Hello, We came to your restaurant on saturday night for a family birthday meal . I must say that the setting, atmosphere and service were good. The proprietor and chef provided an entertaining evening, being welcoming and convivial , if appearing more than a little tipsy(?) We were cheerfully advised that we were the only ones in the restaurant because... More
