We were coming through Chepstow to see the castle. We decided to pop in for tea and some cake. The teas were great and the cakes were sumptuous. Not bad for 3 people under £10 either! Worth stopping. The view of the River Wye is beautiful, as well!

First, we saw this advertised as a B&B, but then it turned out that breakfast wasn't included. Sometimes available, for an additional fee. The room was very small, but decent. But the bath had apparently been used - wet slip-mat in bottom & wet, half-used bath gel on ledge. Advertised a lovely view of river, but ours was 60% blocked... More

We would like to express our sincerest thanks to Joe and his excellent Staff for hosting the above bash. There were twenty seven of us from far and wide. We had sole use of the back room, with it's views over the River, for Sunday Lunch. The room was beautifully appointed beforehand by the Staff who were most attentive, helpful... More

Myself, my sister & my baby visited here on a sunny afternoon. It's now under new management & us more if a cafe than a restaurant. Serve baguettes, paninis, sandwiches & cakes etc rather than cooked meals. The sun terrace out the back over looking the river is just perfect on a sunny day, very relaxing & peaceful. We both... Although I have lived in Chepstow for 35 years I have never been in the Afon Gwy, this was remedied on Friday when my wife and I called in for a cup of tea. What a pleasant surprise we had, the views from the restaurant and patio overlooking the River Wye are fantastic, we even saw a bull seal making... More

The Afon Gwy is under new management and is now open to enjoy in the daytime as well as the evening. The garden is truly one of the best places to enjoy chepstow's beautiful riverbank whilst enjoying lunch and a tipple. The landlord and staff are all very friendly and make for a relaxing, welcoming environment to enjoy with friends... More

Please take note that this bar/cafe/restaurant has just been taken over. Lovely setting with the outside and restaurant sat along side the riverbank. Perfect with the sun on you and a nice glass of wine. Just been opened as a cafe, selling cakes and fair trade fresh coffee, also a lovely selection of deli items to order which is perfect... More

Tucked away, close to the beautiful Regency bridge and the Castle, the Afon Gwy is a hidden gem. The Sunday lunches are the best in town, and a friendly welcome is guaranteed. Good ale, and a selection of beers wines and spirits make it a popular place for a relaxed drink. The garden is a real treat in the summer,... More

We visited the Afon Gwy for Sunday lunch. Food was lovely, and plenty of it. View from the conservatory room is lovely. Whether visiting for food, or just for a drink, the landlord is extremely friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend.

We recently had Sunday lunch at the Afon Gwy while on a day trip to Chepstow. Wow -- what a find! The kitchen must have been waiting for us because our food arrived ultra fast. Prices were very reasonable; portions were large; and the wait staff was helpful and courteous. For dessert, we split the warm lemon tart (optional topping:... More
