We stayed 2 nights DBB on a cheap mid week deal. I can see where some of the reviewers are coming from. Yes the rooms are dated and could do with a bit of paint and paper,the loo is carpeted..unusual! and some of the pictures on the walls may have been there since the 70s. The Royal Marine has great views, competent management and helpful staff combined with clean, comfortable rooms and fine food. You could not ask for more in a hotel. i didn't try any of the food but i found the hotel to be clean (although the bathroom could do with the sealant being replaced, etc, etc), the staff i encountered were polite and attentive and i had no problems with the hotel at all. more
