This place was awesome. The ambience is like no other and the food was delicious. The place is about a thousand years old and was once a monastery so don't expect anything wild and crazy. Food was cooked in a very large wood burning oven. Everything down to the bread and butter was great. Since I was part of a... More

This convent is very special! They invested a lot of money to restore it. It's really amazing! Wonderfull wooden ceilings, nice restaurant, rooms are quite simple but very authentic. We liked this place very much. Prices also ok! We recommend.

We had the misfortune to visit this place whilst on Viking River Cruise as part of one of their pre arranged excursions. We were promised soup, succulent pork and potatoes, a salad and lovely wine. What a joke. The soup was cold and tasteless, salad was thinly sliced tomatoes with a bit of lettuce, amd the pork was 2 small... More

After reading several reviews about the hotel's meals, I decided to skip this trip sponsored by Viking River Cruise. I'm grateful that my husband talked me into going. Every course was delicious. And, the red wine was very good. The monastery was beautiful. The Fado concert was just okay, but the trip was worthwhile for the setting, food & wine.

We were part of a group tour booked into the convent for dinner on a bleak, cold, wet December night. After traveling a short distance above the Douro River, we arrived and were directed through the long, long hallways filled with items collected by the owner over the years. Along the hallways were numerous doors, all closed and numbered, which... More

Our experience here may be different to others in that we were a large group partaking in a river cruise. Added to that because we had been trapped for two days by a broken lock we arrived on a different day than originally planned. Also I suspect that our experience was enhanced by the crew of our ship stepping in... More

Stunning place and huge potential but as a restaurant experience it is dire. Very slow service and bad planning made this a long winded and drawn out miserable evening. The food was ok.. Vegetable soup was gentle, fresh but bland. The pork was tasty and succulent but they didn't supply enough salad and it was hard to coordinate so that... More

With a privileged location it is a shame how badly the convento is managed. The manager receives the guests with an unfriendly attitude and the rooms were very poorly cleaned. it is really a pity for such an amazing building in a great location. On a positive note, all the people working at the convento were very nice so in... More
