The perfect hotel to stay for a night. Although the rooms are quite small and tight, they are tastefully decorated, wam and inviting. We stayed for one night in December and were greeted by a friendly chap behind the bar who directed us to the check in desk which is hidden down a corridor. When we arrived, I immedietly asked... On a cold, blustery Sunday afternoon there is nothing better than enjoying a great roast with family and friends. Working up an appetite with a long walk in the picturesque local countryside I was eager to see what The Carnarvon had to offer. We arrived and were warmly greeted by our waiter, shown to a cosy nook and settled down.... More

I chose to go here with a friend for her birthday treat following a mail shot, offering 50% off food. A warm welcome awaited (despite it being well below zero outside) from the very friendly waitress. The bar was quite busy unlike the restaurant, but this could have been down to the exceptionally cold weather. We asked several questions about... More

We stayed for just one night on our way though Newbury. On arrival we received a warm welcome from the manager , who took time to explain everything and then took us to our room (all named after famous race horse's, ours being sea biscuit) The room was clean and comfortable with a modern shower room. We are in the... More

Best roast in the county. Staff were amazing, the head chef Simon came out with the potatoes and trimmings to ensure our meal went that extra mile. He did this to every table. No one was disappointed. Highly recommend to friends and family. I'm a hotel blogger and this is one of the best venues I've been too, and I'm... More

We stayed here for New Year's Eve. Having booked the room separately I enquired by phone as to what menu would be available. A very helpful Simon informed me that they had a special menu for £59.95 and emailed it through to me, also with a bottle of bubbly for the table. Given that it was New Year's Eve I... More

It wasn't until after I stayed that I discovered that the Carnarvon Arms is part of the Red Comb Pubs chain. In my experience chain pubs and hotels often tend to be mediocre but usually good value. The Carnarvon was certainly not mediocre. The rooms were modern, clean and comfortable. On arrival the towels had even been arranged in the... More

We had a great lunch here whilst visiting on a mid-week break between Xmas and new year, beautifully decorated and furnished. Very polite and courteous staff. Excellent food at great price. If we ever visit Berkshire agin we will re-visit definitely.
