Having read the Trip Advisor comments by previous guests AFTER I had booked, I must say that I felt a bit apprehensive to say the least. But I needn't have worried in the slightest. The front of house staff were pleasant, helpful and friendly. There was a bit of confusion over my original booking for a disabled room but it... More

We stayed just one night to catch up over dinner with daughter living locally. The front of house staff were absolutely lovely! The waitress/ receptionist showed us to our room and popped back when I stupidly couldn't get the TV to work. When my daughter and friend arrived with dog in tow ( we were going to pop the dog... Booking confirmation from laterooms.com are worthless. If you REALLY need the rooms that laterooms.com say you have booked, you must call the hotel to make sure they have actually been reserved! I booked two single rooms via laterooms.com and literally as I was leaving home in Essex the hotel called me to say that they were overbooked and I now... More

this was a business night stop and I booked before I read the reviews, I am glad I stayed, yes it is a bit in need of investment, but in my opinion damaged by the 'Marco Pierre White' association because it raises an expectation this place does not deliver. but the price is not MPW either! My meal was quickly... More

I wish to start by saying I have given this place a 'poor' marking literally due to my experience in the service. I booked this accommodation as it was a treat to myself and my sister on my first birthday after I had completed my cancer treatment. We were visiting Highclere Castle and booked this along with the hotel in... More

This is an hotel that needs a lot of money spending on it as the decor in the rooms is old and sad and the furniture ancient. Our room was very small and that also applied to the ensuite shower room.It would have been fine as a single but not as a double. The generous hospitality tray was welcome after... More

A group of 4 of us booked a 2 night stay to celebrate our wedding anniversaries arriving 1st December. Our two rooms 122 and 124 were dirty and dusty, with badly stained carpets, broken and missing light bulbs and the corridors were a hazard with rugs with upturned edges over carpets. I returned to the bar\reception but was told that... More

How a famous chef can put his name to such an amateur establishment is beyond me.On booking and paying up front for Dinner Bed and Breakfast and then to turn up to find the place in total darkness is beyond words. Then on contacting the General Manager to be told I will feel better in the cold light of day leaves... My partner and I stayed here a month ago due to a groupon voucher for a stay and two three course meals for £99. The room was clean and comfortable, the meal was very nice (potted pork starter, steak main and Creme brûlée dessert) and the staff were very helpful and relaxed. I did not see any of these 'glaring'... More

Strange pub/restaurant - the dining area seems unfinished - a barn conversion maybe - but just lacked atmosphere. Ordered the fish and triple cooked chips and have to say it was very good - good portion of fish - delicious batter and really good chips, with fresh lemon, and marrowfat peas. Its very reasonably priced - most dishes are 12.50.... More
