The grounds and the approach to the hotel is lovely and then..........Hotel reception was unmanned and had to go looking for someone to check me in. The reception area needed re-painting. The room had a musty smell and needed redecorating, there were water mark stains on the wall paper and paint peeling off the window sill where you had difficulty... more

We stayed for 4 nights in August, wonderful place. Very peaceful hotel surroundings, room clean and well furnished and the spa and food is superb...fully reccomended. However I will not be using Hotels.com again as on checkout I find I could of paid over £100 less than using Hotels.com who refused to even entertain a price match - Be warned. more

Stayed at the Donnington in a Executive Suite as the Vineyard (sister hotel) was fully booked, ready for a board meeting on Monday morning. Very bad service in the bar - waited nearly an hour for a tasteless spaghetti carbonara (£12.50) and 20 minutes for my glass of wine (which cost £11.50!). We also weren't the only ones complaining about... more

Admittedly arriving just as a wedding fair was packing up was a bit offputting, as was finding out my room wasn't ready (at 4pm), but this hotel doesn't quite live up to its website puffery. Definitely the pricefighter to its more illustrious sister, the Vineyard it has the same unfathomable regard for wooden loo seats and the 'fresh' milk in... more

Stayed here for a combined break on the Sunday and then business meetings the next day nearby. When we arrived reception was packed with people checking in/out, and so I thought we'd be ages. But staff were really fast, and we were through in minutes. Room was ready (11am!) so very impressed. Decor throughout is very smart, and the rooms... more

I stopped here to be near to the venue of an early starting meeting the next morning. I booked direct with the hotels website on a room only rate. I booked a superior room. Arrived in the afternoon to find the reception area and bar busy with training/meeting groups moving furniture and 'huddling'. Reception gave me the key for the... more

Stayed at this hotel on business for 5 nights and overall enjoyed my stay. Overall the hotel is well run and found the staff helpful and polite. Bedrooms-spacious and clean, bathroom very good size with added benefit of seperate bath and shower, although the tap on the sink was very loose for the whole of my stay and although I... more

Staff are very good, but i can't understand why the AA choose this hotel for the award i am not sure. The rooms where smart and very clean, dinner the first night was not very special, although the second night was a lot better. The spa treatment i had was excellent and the spa was special and very well maintained.... more

I stay in Newbury every week on business. Donnington Valley no longer gets my business. On the plus side it has beautiful rooms that are very well appointed. The extension and addition of the spa has been detrimental to the level of service and forced their room rates up. May be it's growing pains. I choose not to stay here... more

I stayed in one of the newly renovated executive rooms. The hotel is very modern, nicely located and offers excellent SPA facilities. The room was comfortable and clean. Check-in was ok but the staff does not seem to have experience and clearly does not satisfy international hospitality standards. The (flat-screen) TV in the room was great but the actual TV... more
