Had an evening meal here with a couple of dear friends, a month or so ago. The staff were friendly, helpful and amusing. The service was spot on and the food was excellent. All three of us were very impressed (which is praise indeed from three fussy old farts). Of particular interest to me was the in-depth knowledge of the... More

Decent Real Ales, typical old english country pub, but like much of England, it seems to have lost its way. I ordered a Ploughman's Lunch, which has always consisted of a cold meal consisting of cheese, chutney, and bread - meat may or may not be added. My Ploughman's at The Carpenter's Arms had no cheese, no chutney (instead there... More

We are sorry to hear that your Ploughman's was not to your liking, however we feel that we need to point out that our menu clearly gives a choice of "Cheese, homecooked ham, rare roast beef, pate or smoked salmon ploughmans" if a diner chooses a ploughmans and doesn't ask for cheese then correct me if I am wrong but... cosy little bar and seemed full of locals which is a good sign ! Doorway through the bar led into a large restaurant in the conservatory. As much as I would have enjoyed a starter I decided to have a pudding instead. The menu is not to large but there were also 4 or 5 specials on the night we visited... More

We stayed here after touring Highclere Castle because of the close proximity. We stayed in unit 1. It is a large unit and has a large ensuite, but it is at best, tired and lacking. It is does not feel clean like....do I really want to take my shoes off in this bathroom? We stayed one night and played 65... More

I have been working in the area for the last 18 months and staying at the Carpenters Arms during the week all this time. I have now just retired. I have to say I have worked all over the country but these are best lodging I have ever had. The rooms are spacious 1 attached to the pub 6 across... More

If you want honest home cooked proper pub grub, then this is definitely the place to go. The Carpenters Arms in Burghclere is a real credit to themselves, they offer great food at a great price, the staff are extremely welcoming and attentive but not in your face. They keep an excellent cellar and no matter what time of day... More

3 of us stopped by this pub for lunch after a nearby tour of Highclere Castle. We were looking for a reasonable priced simple but tasty pub lunch, and that is exactly what we got! The staff were welcoming and friendly, you had a fantastic choice of seating, from inside the main pub, to a large conservatory or large pub... More

We stopped here for lunch half way round a circular walk from Beacon Hill. (The pub welcomes walkers and provides overshoes for muddy boots.) We sat in the small main bar. There is also a lovely looking conservatory area. The menu is comprehensive with a wide range of specials and sandwiches. We had brie and bacon and fish finger sandwiches.... More

Stopped of at the Carpenters Arms for Sunday lunch with friends as recommended by friends. Sunday lunch menu was not extensive, so made the decision of what to choose so much easier. I had Homemade Fish & Seafood Pie, absolutely gorgeous, despite not being able to eat Mussels! Sunday Roast looked inviting too, with "proper" gravy. Everyone in our group... More

If you leave a board on a road offering food served all day, then one would hope to be fed once you get there. Instead, we were informed there wasnt any. Conclusion. Dont ever go here. From the 29 seconds i was in there looked very run down and needs painting. And some chalk to amend their road sign

We're sorry you feel that our sign was misleading but what it says is that we are OPEN ALL DAY (which we are from 11am until midnight) and that we serve food. There is another board immediately outside the pub and clearly on display that gives the opening hours of the kitchen - we fail to see how that is... More
