Just back from weekend at this hotel and I found that it was just what we needed for a trip to Newbury races, the hotel is currently under refurbishment but we were not inconvenienced by work going on and new furniture in bedrooms was of a good standard ,rooms are clean and quite big especially bathrooms which is always a plus.... It was really a pleasant suprise after reading some negative reviews. It is true, the hotel is in need of a major re-decoration and the first impression of dead plants in the window boxes adds to the bad look. The room was quite nice with all the needs satisfied, wifi was complimentory and free parking added to the plus side.... More

I was a bit apprehensive having read the reviews here but I had no complaints about this hotel. The staff were friendly and efficient, knew what they were talking about. We had a street facing room on the second floor but as the windows had secondary glazing, did not suffer from any road noise. It was a bit of a... More

Stayed for two nights , stayed previously and found the room great and the staff offhand, this time complete turnaround room was just okay it was clean but quite small , mattress very uncomfy , the staff all seemed to have been on a customer service course and were polite to the point of being a little over the top,... First and foremost, my experience was that all the staff were really friendly, and seemed genuinely keen to help. That goes a long way to making a stay more relaxing. Because it is an old coaching inn, it is a bit of a warren when finding your room. It also has rooms on the front, and therefore a road. Obviously... More

Very convenient location near the town centre with the added bonus of a large car park. My room was well equipped and comfortable with tea, coffee and a kettle provided. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast is served in the bright Brasserie and offered a good choice which will suit most tastes. Only minor drawback is that street facing... More

52 yr old Businesswoman travelling on her own. Hotel is in excellent location, right in middle of newbury. Receptionist gave me key, and pointed to stairs...no lift. Turned out he was sending me with my case up 58 stairs! Nearly had the inhaler out! Door of room had been forced open on at least one prior occasion (you could see... More

Stayed here for work. A nice hotel but tired looking, in need of some refurbishment though. Great friendly staff and fabulous rooms, ample parking at the rear and in the centre of Newbury so plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. Would recommend.

Great location for town centre adequate parking and staff friendly, however the decoration leaves a lot to be desired,, the paintwork hasn't seen a brush in years externally and internally,, put the curtains through a hot wash or change for new, update the beds and be faultless,, we must take into consideration cost per night though and it is vfm...
