Good location however the room was shabby, I found an old packet of crisps in the draw and the bathroom was awful and dirty, the sink was blocked and the shower didn't work and dripped all night extremely loudly........ I only stayed one night, I would never stay again. more

At £50 for room only, this central hotel seemed like excellent value but with the price of the breakfast at £11.95 it made more sense to go to a local cafe. The hotel would benefit from a refurbishment. Generally staff were friendly but I was disappointed to have to ask for tea and coffee sachets the first night and milk... more

We recently held our wedding reception at the Chequers Hotel. We were first attracted to the hotel as there was so much character and warmth about it , unlike some of the newer venues available in newbury, I would like to say that we were very pleased that we did, All the staff were very helpful from the intial planning... more

The hotel is right in the centre of Newbury. I was given a room in the annex at the back of the hotel, it was quite a nice room but ridiculously hot (the heated towel rail in the bathroom was constantly on) and as it was a ground floor room leading straight on to the car park I didn't feel... more

I stayed again this year only because it was close to the business meetings I needed to go to. Next time I will stay somewhere else. The staff is not very nice. One night I needed to go down to the front desk at 2am for an adapter, and found the entire lower level of the hotel full of smoke... more

Excellently placed in the centre of Newbury which makes it an ideal location if you do not want to travel far out of the town. I was particularly impressed with the reception on arrival and during the (2 day) stay. The staff were very helpful and informative. Another plus side was that the breakfast was cooked to order - quite... more

I booked to stay in Newbury to visit relatives and normally stay at the Hilton's (either north or south of the town). They were both full, so I booked the Chequers as it was the first alternative that came to mind. It is located right in the town centre and has a good size free car park, which you access... more

For many consecutive weeks banished to Vodabury I had occasion to stay at most of the hotels in the area and quickly settled on Chequers as my first choice. I am not impressed with cookie cutter hotels and this one is not that. The health and safety inspired fire doors and such detract slightly from the delightful up three stairs,... more

Stayed at The Chequers Hotel at short notice and got a room only deal at £45. Lots of work going on outside, but no noise from that at the weekend. Reception OK, but stairs and corridors need some work, looking tired and dirty. Room OK, bed faily comfortable, but cold tap didn't work in on the bath which meany adding... more

I have just returned from a three day stay at the Chequers Hotel in Newbury, Berkshire. The entire experience was fantastic - this hotel's greatest asset is its staff. The location of this hotel is very central to Newbury town and there is ample patron parking. I was at the Chequers on business and found their conference/ seminar venues and... more
