Having arrived on Friday night and been greeted by friendly staff, our check in was hassle free and easy. The hotel is reasonable and needs updating but you should get what you pay for and I wouldn't bother with breakfast. Firstly the waitress had very little understanding of English language which made things difficult. We had paid £10 each for... More

We booked 4 nights at the Chequers as we had come to visit relatives in Newbury. On first impression the outside of the building looked a bit tired but the inside was very pleasant and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had requested a quiet room on the top floor. The room seemed a very nice standard hotel room.... More

We was staying for the weekend and decided to pop in to the restaurant for a quick bite to eat. To our surprise the food was very good, and presented beautifully and was worth every penny, If I could complain about one thing it would be its not closer to our home or I would make regular visits just for... Several years ago when I was a regular business traveller I (or rather my company at that time!) paid top rates for a hotel room midweek, while rooms at the weekend for Joe Public were pretty reasonable. Sadly the reverse is true nowadays, with the weekend traveller subsidising global organisations even at the bar (a few weeks ago in a... More

Stayed here for two nights along with a large number of our family in Newbury for a wedding. The hotel was clean and well appointed but nothing special . and the Sunday breakfast was not a good as the Saturday being communal rather than the two by two on Saturday. The building is very rambling and has many stairs and... More

Traditional old hotel in the centre of Newbury. Staff we're very helpful. We needed an extra bed in one of the rooms for a child so they moved us to the annexe-a three bedroomed house. Large rooms & comfy beds-breakfast was great. Would definitely recommend-much more character than a Travel lodge!

there are doors every where, which is a struggle if you have luggage. The bedrooms floor is not even so you have a slidding sensation. The bathtub is so narrow that the shower curtain raps you while you shower. The fire ext alarm went off twice during the night, which ruins your sleep. Plus the road noise. My recomendation stay... We only had one night in this hotel, and chose not to have breakfast. The beds were very comfy and the rooms very clean, shower was brill, the room was very hot but we turned off the rad. Great night porter open the bar and served us drinks and even went and made me a cup of tea, such a... More

Our party of 11 really enjoyed our 3 day stay at the Chequers Hotel. Although parts of this hotel are still undergoing renovation our rooms were clean and comfortable, with all special requests taken care of by the staff. The evening meals were excellent quality with interesting choices, and staff were obliging and cheerful throughout. We shall certainly recommend the... More

Large, mostly clean, comfortable room. A bit of trek through the carpark to get to our annex room. Although clean the overall appearance of the hotel and dining room is tired and shabby in places. Our evening meal was good value but only just ok. Generous supply of refreshment making stuff in rooms and toiletries
