We stayed at the Chequers for one night, for my birthday. It's in a good location, just a few minutes walk to the town centre. Plenty of free parking at the back of the hotel. The hotel is old, but we found it clean and comfortable. Our room on the second floor was large and appeared to have been recently... More

Stayed here while traveling between Southampton and Lamborn. Hotel is the sort of thing you would imagine Americsn tourists would imagine an English hotel to be. Old building but well cared for and our twin room was simply enormous. Decent breakfast and a good car park on site. There seemed to be rooms courtyard which we didn't stay in we... More

This is an old hotel, friendly staff but it needs remodelling. There are fire doors on each level of the staircase, and its impossible to carry bags and open these doors. Narrow rambling corridors to rooms.

I have spent here 4 days in October. The room was okay, the bed was very good. I had only one dinner there, however it was very good. Service is fine, they were quite nice to me. Only bothering thing was the cold water when I wanted to have a bath (it was not warm enough for me).

Stayed here for one night and was truly surprised (given some of reviewss) as had a lovely stay. The location is perfect and I really picked it for this and the car parking in the centre of town. Staff were really friendly and welcoming and our room was clean. You can tell the hotel is a bit 'faded in places'... More

We paid almost £300 for two nights here with breakfast , which they took payment for instantly when I booked, no wonder as it wasn't worth £50 per night! The public areas were tatty and in major need of decoration and cleaning, and our room was worse the ensuite bathroom was cringeworthy to shower in, the ceiling was falling down,... More

We arrived at the hotel on Friday evening. We were greeted by a man with the personality of brick wall. Rather scruffy. We stayed here as we were going to the races. We went to the bar to get a drink. Waited 10 Minutes before going to reception to find someone to serve us. I had the worst night sleep.... More

The check in experience was ok; although staff a bit scruffy. I know it was a corporate booking and the room key was already, with me just completing the usual check in card. But to be honest I felt that they were a bit off hand with me. None of the usual, would you like a wakeup call, newspaper etc.... More

A typical old fashioned English hotel in the centre of Newbury which is a pretty market town. The hotel is dated despite efforts to modernise it and there is no lift. We requested a quiet room but were allocated a room at the front of the hotel overlooking the main road and opposite a bleeping pedestrian crossing. The room itself... More
