4 grown ups - my daughters birthday - the first thing to remember with the Chequers is that it is as very old hotel - it is not a chain hotel with pristine cube shaped rooms rooms all clinically clean and exactly the same. Our room was more than adequate and my daughters room had a 4 poster bed. It... More

My wife and i just needed to get away to relax after a very busy time of late. We chose this this hotel because of the proximatey to the town as both of us needed a break from driving. Location was perfect for us. The hotel could do with a bit of TLC but the deal we had we couldnt... More

Stayed here overnight & whilst the room itself was ok, it could've done with a refurb & freshening up! On arriving, despite having requested an early check-in & being told it would be ready, it was not & the bar wasn't even open at 12.00 to sit in whilst waiting for our room. No staff visible apart from one lone... More

I was there with my mother. We came to visit Highclere Castle and we're delighted with our choice of hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They do not seem to receive a lot of foreign guests, but they should, they deserve it! The room was perfectly clean, very big and quite comfortable. Maybe a little ageing but for... More

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to the town centre , and in that respect its perfect , but the hotel itself is a complete dive , it's in real need of a complete refurbishment , it's old, tatty & smells of damp. The guy on reception has zero personality and could hardly break a smile . My... More

After a very lengthy 4.5 hour drive from a very bespoke hotel to this was a real culture shock. Booked on behalf of our group the hotel made 'Fawlty Towers' look a 5 star accommodation. On check-in which was the norm and given our room keys, we enquired about the lift to the 2nd floor considering we had luggage, only... More

I will thoroughly recommend this place. The rooms are excellent, clean andthe en suite has a bath and shower! there is parking, you're near the centre of town. Everything is great about this place based in an old coaching inn.

Situated at top of main shopping street, so ideally located for me. Plenty of restaurants a short walk away. A bit confusing finding our room at first, as it is a big place with two lots of stairs to access first and second floors. The room was quite big as was the bathroom; quite a grand air to it. Large... More

We stayed here 2 nights while visiting family. The room was very well decorated and clean and cosy. The bed was comfortable but the room was so hot that it was impossible to sleep. After the first night I enquired at reception could anything be done about it but was told no. The radiators in the room were not on... More
