if anyones plannig a special occasion or simply a few nights stay in Scarborough then the Clarence Gardens Hotel is a MUST!! we have just had my parents golden wedding anniversary at this hotel and from start to finish everything was outstanding. The owners and their lovely family did everything they could (and more) to make the day extra special.... More

Reception ok. Checking out more positive. A bit faded. Breakfast very adequate, dining room staff responsive and dietary needs catered for as requested. Grand children found it comfortable. Obviously a front/seaview room would have added value compared with view over parking and back area to backs of other residential area. Some other guests not very considerate with parking in front... Absolutely gutted Paul and Paula aren't there. Booked for my birthday must be 10th visit in last few years to find another family running it. Never even seen them apart from the younger girl who was there now and again always on her phone or outside smoking and swearing (showing off). Rooms as before, food wasn't as good though. So... First thing I'd say is ignore all the negative reviews. You get what you pay for. £40 a night with amazing views over the bay and the sea. We were in room 8 on the first floor, cracking view of the sea from the window. Yes the room and bathroom are small but what do you expect. If you want... More

My wife and i have just returned from 4 nights at this hotel and i must say it was not as good as other reviews have said. The room though clean was very small with just enough room for the double bed, the rooms are single glased so the sound of screeching seagulls was very noticable, also the curtains were... More

Room 10 was like being back in the 1960s.Woodchip wallpaper, old furniture,a bed that had a mattress topper on it which fitted badly, and was so soft we came home with very bad backs.Shower and toilet were in nothing more than a cupboard. This room needs a overhaul, like the rest of hotel.Staff only spoke when spoken too,and there was no breakfast being served... Beautifully situated on a cliff above the North Bay with views of the Castle and the bay to the north. Well looked after by the people who could not do enough to make sure we had a good time. Smart little bar in the hotel and first class breakfasts. Would visit again. Good for the cricket festival if a supporter.

We were given a room right on the top floor with a wonderful sea view. The room was warm and the hotel perfectly located. The bathroom, however, was dusty and outdated. The furnishings definitely need replacing. The lack of water pressure in the shower made it difficult to wash my hair. The bedroom was clean but the bed itself was... More

Room was like being in a 2nd hand shop, dirty old furniture, television was to high so could not see the picture unless standing up, staff more interested in playing with their kids in pyjamas, we were that that disappointed we did not even wait for breakfast.
