Just spent a lovely weekend at the Castle By The Sea. It is a wonderful old building with fantastic views from the outside terrace where we enjoyed a large pot of tea. There is a comfy lounge area and a rather splendid dining room. Even though we had the last available room which is one of the smallest, there was... More

This is a historic building, having been the home of the artist John Atkinson Grimshaw, & situated on the headland, just under the castle. The bedrooms are comfortable, although the decor is a bit dated. The dining room is very appealing, with its lantern roof, & old wooden fireplace, & prints of Atkinson Grimshaw's paintings. The lounge is comfy, with... More

We stayed in room 3 it was a good size room and very clean I was a little disappointed by the fact that there was no window in the room instead there was a door which had a frosted window in it which lead out onto a terrace. The shower room was clean but dated and I we really struggled... More

visited in May, very old fashioned, furniture quite dated and worn in areas. breaakfast and evening meals served in conservatory which hadnt seen a lick of paint in years. the "balcony" on our room was a disgrace - worn out - and not useable - patio furniture, a pond kind of attraction that was just green water with fly larvae...
