Just spent a lovely weekend at the Castle By The Sea. It is a wonderful old building with fantastic views from the outside terrace where we enjoyed a large pot of tea. There is a comfy lounge area and a rather splendid dining room. Even though we had the last available room which is one of the smallest, there was... More

Stayed for three nights in Rooms 2 and 3. These rooms have access to a lovely terrace and room 2 has a great view. ( would ask for 1 & 2 next time). Great welcome. Help with the cases. Choose this hotel as we could take our dog and it could go everywhere in the hotel. Room was fine. nice... More

This is a historic building, having been the home of the artist John Atkinson Grimshaw, & situated on the headland, just under the castle. The bedrooms are comfortable, although the decor is a bit dated. The dining room is very appealing, with its lantern roof, & old wooden fireplace, & prints of Atkinson Grimshaw's paintings. The lounge is comfy, with... More

We stayed in room 3 it was a good size room and very clean I was a little disappointed by the fact that there was no window in the room instead there was a door which had a frosted window in it which lead out onto a terrace. The shower room was clean but dated and I we really struggled... More

visited in May, very old fashioned, furniture quite dated and worn in areas. breaakfast and evening meals served in conservatory which hadnt seen a lick of paint in years. the "balcony" on our room was a disgrace - worn out - and not useable - patio furniture, a pond kind of attraction that was just green water with fly larvae... Previously stayed here in 2010. Again, very hospitable, friendly service. Good full English breakfast (with home made preserves) sets you up for the day. Can be taken in the conservatory with fantastic views of Scarborough's North Bay. Very good location on the headland just below Scarborough Castle, near St Mary's church. Not too far from the town, restaurants and harbour... More

On arrival, we we're greeted by John who helped us in with our cases. Once unpacked, we had their 'cream tea'. Wonderful home made produce; impeccably served, whilst we relaxed for the afternoon in the conservatory area with our dog. John's recommendation of a local 'dog friendly' pub that evening proved an ideal choice for real ale, super food and... More

Just got back from a brilliant stay at the castle. 3 generations plus bella the boxer were perfectly situated on the 3 terrace bedrooms with access to all the rooms. Not the quietest of kids especially Fraser. But John and Janet made us feel so welcome .Breakfast which is superb was a prime example of Johns patience with us. The whole... More
