An impressive setting overlooking the cliffs and South Beach Scarborough. A lack of parking makes unloading your car difficult, having to chance that no traffic wardens are waiting for you to 'drop' on a double yellow line outside. A typical 'Grand' hotel of the 40's, unfortunately the decor probably dates from then as well. That is not to say the... More

We booked in for a night at the bank holiday as we had not been to Scarborough before. The hotel sits on a one way system which makes finding it pretty hard as there are no signs and very poor immediate parking at the hotel. Once in our room was well enough equipped for a good 3 star hotel but... More

Expensive and a big ripoff. Room was substandard for the money paid, web site misleading. We were put in a room overlooking a what could be called a tip, the bath room was not clean and the extractor fan did not work, also the room was sloping at a very worrying angel causing the wardrobe and bed to be chocked... Hotel has an absolutely stunning lobby with grand staircases, unfortunately the accommodation does not quite have the same grandeur. Whilst the room was a good size with a modern bathroom the floors sloped in two directions which whilst quaint could case issues for someone not too good on their feet. As usual family accommodation does not have the best of... More

We went to the Royal with National Holidays on 24th Aug' to 28th. The coach was not national it did not have seat numbers. Our room was a good size but the beds were not made properly each day. We had a leek from the room above into our room, no apology from reception, the towel rail fell off the... More

From the moment we arrived there I realised that this hotel was not going to live up to its name Royal it certainly wasn't. The outside was dilapidated, no parking available except in the shooping centre car park, a fair walk away at a cost of £8 per day which made an already overpriced hotel extortionate. The reception area was... More

Room was OK however very noisy.. the fact we had to pay to go into the swimming pool was an insult considering we paid £140 a night.. Breakfast was awful, full English buffet was cheap, nasty and dried out. The continental pastries were stale and that hard you could use them as weapons. Explained to the supervisor who rudely stated... More

Shabby disgusting rooms with patches of mould on the walls, wallpaper peeling off, sheets smell of bleach and after sleeping in them your skin smells like bleach too! Dirty dusty light shade above the bed, broken floor tiles in bathroom and the toilet seat is so worn it is unhygienic!! Got back to the hotel at 11pm to find the... More

This Hotels web photos are very misleading from what we saw, unfortunatly so traditional it is in desperate need of a revamp , with pain peeling, damp patches, carpets a trip hassard and although yes its a...
