Just returned from an overnight stay at the Royal, had a great time. We were given a suite with sea views. Beautiful place, friendly staff. Id read quite a few bad reports prior to going so was concerned but will def go back there. Downside.....had to check out by 10am, bit early after a night out. Could do with bath... More

Stayed weekend 23rd Feb for two nights as a middle aged couple using a voucher deal that included a dinner and bottle of wine on the first night. Due to traffic problems arrived just in time for dinner and were pleasantly surprised to be seated in front of the entertainment for the night that were singers and dancers of a... More

If you are the kind of person who whinges over an occasional creaky floorboard, broken tile or badly fitting wardrobe door this is not the hotel for you. It's ideally placed right in the middle of town so you can't fault the location (though that means it has no parking). The staff are among the friendliest I've encountered. The sea... More

Originally this 2 night break was booked into the Clifton hotel. The Clifton was closed for repairs so we were moved into the royal. We arrived late on a snow filled Sunday evening, met with a smile by Leanne on reception and asked if we had been upgraded for our troubles. She checked bookings and promptly put us into a suite with a... Whilst it looks quite magnificent on the surface, the hotel lacks the luxurious side that it could have. We booked 3 rooms, mine was good and good value for money (however, the bathroom was not particularly clean and desperately needed renovating!). However, my parents room was like a freezer, the hotel's solution was a plug-in fan heater as their fixed... More

We stayed on 2nd Jan. Hotel was nicely decorated for Christmas and the foyer was impressive. It was much more nicely decorated than The Grand, as we popped over the road to have a look. Room was nice, but a little tired. Beds were comfortable. We enjoyed our stay, but had a little shock when i opened my credit card... More

The central staircase is the selling point of the hotel. Its opulence of times gone by cannot be mistaken. She is an grand old dame! A little tired, but has a lot to share and makes everyone welcome. We used a well-known voucher for the stay at the hotel - and cannot complain. The room was tidy and clean, all... More

My husband and I spent a night here last weekend and expected the hotel to be quite old and in need to some TLC based on the ratings on Tripadvisor. This I can forgive. However, there were a few issues which can't be forgiven. Forstly, my husband had paid for a "sea-view room" upgrade and upon arriving in our room... More
