We enjoyed a couple of days stay at the Salty Monk. A lot of thought and hard work has gone into the restaurant and bedrooms. We stayed in the Rose Room which opened on to the lovely garden. It was tastefully furnished. There was some noise from the road during the day but not obtrusive during the night. Due to... More

We chose the Salty Monk based on the previous reviews and were not disappointed. From the first hello from Andy and Annette we were made to feel welcome. It is as they say a restaurant (a very good one!) with rooms but those rooms are lovely - definitely 5*. We stayed in the Lavender Room which has a free standing... More

We have been staying at the Salty Monk for over 10 years. We have always received a warm welcome from Annette & Andy. Although we have stayed in several of the rooms over the years we now stay in Heather as we can take our dogs, Lillie & Maisie, who are also made very welcome. We have eaten in both... More

We recently returned to the Salty Monk, receiving a warm welcome as we checked in. Our room, Magnolia, was beautifully furnished with comfortable chairs and lovely décor. The bed was sumptuous and the most comfortable we have slept in. The bathroom was perfect and luxurious. During our stay we dined in both the brasserie and the more formal restaurant. Both... More

Lovely people, lovely hotel, lovely food. We stayed in The Rose Room. The bed was so comfortable we are looking to purchase one ourself now. Our dog Bracken loved his dog biscuits and we loved the treats left in our room. We will be back. Thank you. Colin, Rose & Bracken.

3 course meal for two with half a bottle of wine was priced at the top of the market . I didn't pick up the tab but over £100 with coffee and petit fours being extra which we did not have. Food ok but not noteable, small portions. Choice not great if you are a vegetarian. Service efficient but not... More

We are sorry to learn that you didn't enjoy your meal as much as you should have, I am disappointed that our separate vegetarian menu didn't satisfy, its a shame because our Brasserie menu also has some vegetarian options that we should have made you aware of. Our 3 course dinner is £45.00 per head but includes canapes, an amuse... More

I have been lucky enough to have had 2 visits to The Salty Monk for afternoon tea twice in the last month. With such a lovely warm welcome from Andy and Annette we sat down in the cosy brassiere. The afternoon tea was very memorable, delicious sandwiches with of course their very own homemade bread, all the fillings were delightful.... More

We stay in lots of 4 and 5 Star hotels and top quality B & B's and in our experience this is simply a 'good' quality B and B charging excessive prices. We didn't mind paying the £150 charged during 'low season', but it is completely unthinkable for a place like this to not include breakfast. We had not realized... More

Beautiful room with comfortable bed but o that road. Warm weather so needed the window eon but the noise from the road made it impossible. The other disappointment was the restaurant where you can only eat if you want a full all courses dinner otherwise you are consigned to the bar for a bar meal. Not very inviting and so... More

We were concerned to read that your stay was not as great as it should have been, in normal weather conditions the road noise is normally kept out by the triple glazing in the bedroom. Our Garden room restaurant serves a 2 and 3 course menu for a fixed price. The Abbots Den Brasserie is open for Coffees lunches, afternoon... More

Being regular visitors to Sidmouth we have stayed in most of the hotels and inns but for some unfathomable reason had never stayed at the Salty Monk before. Now I doubt that we could stay anywhere else. We opted for one of the larger rooms with a sitting area and this was a good choice. There is road noise, but... More
