We have just returned from a week in the Royal Glen hotel in sidmouth and have had a wonderful time. We stayed in one of the "named" rooms which opened out onto the patio and garden - it was wondeful. The charming regency hotel with history throughout is situated just 100 yards from the sea front yet far enough away... more

We have just returned from a weekend break at the Royal Glen hotel, Sidmouth. After reading other reviews we were apprehensive at what we might find, especially considering the all in price of £264.00 for B+B for 2 nights (2 adults & 2 children). We were rather expecting a 'get what you pay for' experience considering some other hotels in... more

We had a weekend at this hotel but we were very disapointed our room had a bad smell of damp the furniture well worn and tatty it was also very dull and depressing. The breakfast was average and not very worm, the tables were small not much room to put plates etc. Staff were very friendly. Our frends who also... more

We have just returned from 5 days at the Royal Glen and find it hard to fault. The good points were the location - on the flat so ideal for the elderly yet in a quiet situation minutes from the front, superb staff, comfortable rooms with new bathrooms, very clean, very friendly. The not so good points were lumpy pillows but... more

We had a great weekend at the Glen a grade 1 listed building that has modern comforts and a lovely pool. I cannot believe the other comments I have read, the hotel entrance, bar, restaurant are all beautifully decorated and although the rooms do vary in size due to the old building they were nicely decorated too. The food was... more

Booked there for 2 nights. On arrival we were shown to a dark, dank, damp, smelly hole that they called a bedroom. Wife's asthma immediately erupted. Asked for another room. No can do. Left immediately. And, yes, you guessed it, they charged us for the full stay. If you stay in this pit having read this site, you only have... more

The web site suggested this was a hotel with character. In reality the rooms were pokey (we had a B grade), the furniture was fit only for the junk yard and the bathroom was a disgrace. The car parks were very small and difficult to manoeuvre in. Service in the restaurant was slow, and in some cases it seemed that the... more

We booked for 2 night after revuing their web site. I stay at several Hotels every year from 2 star to 5 along with many Bed and breakfast establishments and this was by far the worst hotel I have stayed at. The whole hotel was seedy and run down with a distinctive musty smell and urgently needs redecorating . The... more

Sidmouth is a resort that doesn't do modern - there are no amusement arcades and a sense of the past pervades - the Victorian promenade is bordered by buildings of character - perfect for those like myself that seek this. The Royal Glen is the perfect match, a grade 1 listed building full of character and history where courtesy, friendliness... more

Lovely location, and a unique building. Very much a home from home, have stayed at the Victoria but this is much nicer. And cheaper! Very friendly helpful staff, they make you feel like family (without the rows!) It seems to be a happy place with staff and guests enjoying each others company. Rooms are all cosy and very clean but... more
