Our last minute decision found us booking two nights here in an autumn spell of excellent weather. Sidholme was built for the Earl of Buckingham in 1826, and remained a private house in distinguished ownership into the mid-20th century. It was then acquired by the conference/hospitality arm of the Methodist church, and is now one of five such institutions in... More

This is a quirky kind of place run by the Christian Guild. Guests tend to be older and are often single travellers who appreciate conversation over breakfast/dinner. I enjoyed meeting and talking to other guests but it may not be everyone's cup of tea. They don't charge a single supplement so this can be a good choice for lone travellers,... More

This is really a Christian conference centre letting rooms as a hotel. I felt the rooms, although clean and well serviced, did not merit the price. Dated decor, and poor, weak showers. Full of larger parties and noisy children...consider whether position merits these downsides.

Stayed here for a couple of nights over the August Bank Holiday weekend whilst attending a conference at Westpoint, Exeter. The price, service and facilities were great and really hit the spot for me. Ensuite room that had everything I needed and was spotlessly clean (even the grout in the shower and the toilet were gleaming white!) All really impressive... More

The house and garden itself is pleasant and the swimming pool was lovely. The room was basic but I expected this for the price. However, we had a bad night due to our room being so close to the very noisy kitchen. We were disturbed by very noisy and inconsiderate staff as well as the dustbin men early in the... More

The room was small, ugly and dirty, the furnitures were old and shabby. We had to share the bathroom with too many peoples, so that it was very dirty all day long. We heard our room neighbour watching TV all night long and our bed was very bad. All in all it seemed more like a youth hostel than a... More

this is our 12th year at Sidholme and usually it is great good to meet up with friends etc. But this year oh what a shock when it came to dinner i felt like i had stepped back into the 1960s. The food was just how i remember my old school dinners frozen veg lukewarm food, the only thing missing... More

First the plus points: Lovely location, fantastic (and little-used - bonus!!) private heated swimming pool, great free snooker table (full-size), excellent choice of breakfasts (evening meals were nice if a little pricey for what they were), definitely family-friendly/tolerent, wonderful front-of-house restaurant staff and a real Edwardian atmosphere. What let the hotel down was its dated decor. Apparently on course for... More

Room in the annexe was disappointing and dated. Bathroom was big, but nasty avocado suite and toilet seat that didn't match. Twin beds only were available. Service when we ordered a drink was painfully slow, as there's no bar and he had to get everything from the back room. This could all have been forgiven, had I not pulled back... More

We booked two rooms for two nights and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff were very helpful and they made us feel very welcome! The hotel benefits from the huge garden and the swimming pool which was of decent size. We will definitely return to Sidholme hotel in the future.
