Cathy has been a wonderful host since her first e-mail until the last minute of my stay. She is friendly, natural, helpful, available, discrete, cheerful ...! The schoolhouse is a unique place: clean, renewed, quiet, peaceful, comfortable and ideally situated near the river and near the center of the village. I had a great time! Thank you, dear Cathy!

An excellent little B&B on the edge of town. We were made to feel very welcome by Cathy. Clean, comfortable bedroom and an excellent breakfast, cooked to order. We stayed in a large room, which had a double (two singles pushed together) and an unused bunk bed. We didn't have an en-suite bathroom as expected, but rather a toilet room... More

We recently spent the night at the School House and loved our stay there. The rooms were large and had everything we needed. The fireplace in the sitting room just outside our room was surely the highlight and it brought much needed warmth and cheer on a cold Scottish evening. Cathy, our host, was very obliging and served us with... More

We stayed at the Schoolhouse bed and breakfast in Ballater for 2 nights. It is situated within beautiful Cairngorms National Park, easy driving distance from Aberdeen and Dunnotar Castle. The rooms were lovely and comfortable, the meals hearty and delicious and there was a lovely common sitting area for relaxing after a day of adventures. Cathy, our host, was the... More

The Schoolhouse B&B is a clean, conveniently located and friendly place to vacation. The breakfast was nommy while our host, Kathy, was thoughtful, kind and all-round pleasant! In addition, she can open a the dinning room door with her foot while carrying breakfast plates! A skill to be applauded! Would certainly recommend, albeit to individuals with transport. Thank you Kathy... More

Just returned from our fourth stay at the Schoolhouse and would highly recommend it. Kathy and Alan are just so welcoming and cannot do enough for you, nothing is a trouble. The rooms are clean and they allow you to use the large sitting area which is fab. Lovely breakfast in the morning. Ballater is a beautiful village and the... More

We spent one night in the School house and it was great. We were the only guests that night so it was very quiet and we had the whole house to our self. Tea and coffee were available downstairs. Everything was very clean, the room had a huge bed very comfy and the bathroom was nice. The breakfast was very... More

Room was spacious. En suite bathroom was adequate. Interesting house with lovely wooden floors. A bit lacking in atmosphere and cosiness. No glasses in the bathroom and only one hand towel for two people. Very clean with comfortable beds. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and tasty food served freshly cooked and hot. Service was excellent. Staff could not... More

Thanks for your review and for your positive comments about the service and cleanliness you found here at Schoolhouse. I remember you asking for extra hand towels and bathroom glasses! Of course, it was no problem to supply these (I should point out to anyone reading this that quality bath towels are also supplied - one per person!!). I have... More

Was initially confused on arrival as owner wasn't about, but checked my email on phone and she had sent a clear message explaining which room was ours. We had very comfy beds, but the king size could have been a little longer for very tall people. Full breakfast in morning was nicely done, and staff were very helpful. Would stay... More
