What a delightful place to stay, this renovated church is just lovely, comfortable and excellent service. Room and shower room was great - plenty of space, very clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful, but not overbearing and the breakfast is exceptional - we could have sat there grazing all day!! Great selection of meats, fruits, cheeses,... More

Spent a couple of nights here last week. Very nicely decorated but still incorporating church features. Relaxed friendly atmosphere, easy walk to pubs and restaurants. Breakfast was super, great choice and muffins to die for! Thanks Peter and Tony.

We had just spent 2 nights at the Fairmont in St. Andrews, so we were ready for something a little cozier. The Auld Kirk is a renovated church in the quaint town of Ballater, near Balmoral Castle. The rooms are small but nicely decorated. We have 3 kids, so we needed 2 rooms. The rates were quite reasonable, and we... More

I found this hotel when planning a trip to the Cairngorms to ski. I decided on Ballater as there are shops and restaurants places to walk round in the village if the snow was poor. This converted church is fabulous, it is so unique with much of the church features incorporated into the rooms. The owner was so helpful with... More

I recently stayed here for one night as my husband had to be in Ballater for work. The booking was a bit last minute and we weren't sure what to expect but the Auld Kirk was easy to find, straightforward to check in to and the room was nice. Some parts of it looked a little tired but it was... More

You can't fault it. A building with character and charm (a converted church). A warm welcome. Cheerful staff delivering a fresh, modern dining experience at breakfast. Tasteful interior decoration. And a short walk to the pubs of Ballater. All of this must pain the po-faced former owners of this establishment.....

Very friendly welcome and service throughout our stay. Well appointed and comfortable rooms all topped off with an excellent breakfast. It's a shame that their restaurant is no longer running as that reviews on here and accolades on the walls of the hotel reception demonstrate that it must have been pretty special. However, it's only a short walk into town... More

We stayed here as guests at a wedding in Ballater. Our room was clean and spacious as was the bathroom. The hotel has been decorated nicely still keeping some of it's original features but still having a modern feel. East to find and plenty of space to park on street. Only 5 minute walk to all the shops. Breakfast in... More

Just a quick review. Stayed at the Auld Kirk whilst on business in Aberdeen (closest hotel we could find that was not full). Interesting and tasteful decor with a simpathetic conversion from its former use. Very friendly and efficient staff. Sadly the restaurant was closed (mid November) but the breakfast provided was top class. The hotel is on my list... More

We were skeptical at first, a church converted to a hotel? But were amazed at how tasteful this was done! The design was reverent to a church and modern to a home and the outcome was an amazing small hotel! Rooms were modern and bathrooms sleek with lots of modern features. Walking distance to shops and restaurants, but the restaurant... More
