I stayed at the Alex for two nights on a winter walking trip with friends from work at the beginning of December 2015. We booked two twin rooms which were comfortable and clean. We were greeted by extremely friendly staff and the friendly vibe of the place continued throughout the stay. We had a few drinks in the bar on... More

Yes, this is a splendid place to visit. A friendly small family hotel where I appreciated the well-kept real ales and a high standard of pub food. The newish owners deserve our support; you will not be disappointed.

Friendly and helpful staff, great food, real ale, and plenty hot water for a soak after along day bagging Munros. The rooms were clean and have recently been redecorated. The town its self has a selection of takeaways and restaurants and a few more bars. The full Scottish breakfast is more than enough fuel for a days walking, but the... More

This is a very dog friendly place to stay, the dogs allowed in the bar when food is not being served. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely... More

A fantastic find in a quaint little Scottish town. We only stopped in for dinner, but we for the clientele friendly and warm, the food beyond recommendable and the hospitality went above and beyond for us. Definitely go, even if it's just for a drink.

Stayed for 1 night for a wedding, nice greeting from lovely friendly staff it is very clean, the single room was a bit small the double was fine we had a meal late afternoon which was very very nice. Ballater is not a big place so easy walking to the village.
