We booked here as it is near Balmoral. The reception was very welcoming but the hotel is rather fired. The room we were shown was very small with a tiny shower room. We asked for a larger room and were upgraded for £20. This room was bigger and had a much better bathroom. The food in the restaurant was excellent.... More

Pleasant stay, food really good, Bed comfortable, decent wifi connection & pleasant welcome. Staff always helpful & hotel is in a quiet area of Ballater so a peaceful sleep is guaranteed. Only down side is that room I was staying in could do with a make over.. bring it up to date. apart from that.. not bad at all.

I stayed here on a work trip last week and thoroughly recommend it. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, particularly Murray, who runs the hotel with his parents. From the moment of booking to the morning I left, nothing was too much trouble. There was a homely atmosphere that you don't always find.

The Glen Lui is an older small hotel. We stayed in room 11. Good size twin room with basic amenities. The TV was tiny and at least 20 years old. Tricky to operate and we needed binoculars to see the picture. We booked the hotel based on the dining room reviews but were dismayed to find on check in that... More

My family and I spent two nights at the Glen Lui Hotel. We had to leave the car, and walk minutes (with our luggage), through the snow! We missed supper, as the kitchen closes around 9.00pm. The staff very hospitable , and brought a tray with soup, to our room - hugely welcome. We stayed in Room 5. Our son... More

The property consists of a main building and a separate wooden annex around the backside of the main building. It is your typical older scottish building, which is to say nice in an old way and with the features that follow from belonging to an earlier age (or bygone era as another reviewer terms it) The wooden annex is a... The hotel has the old world charm of a bygone era.... even down to some of the elder residents wearing jacket and tie in the restaurant. However, the location is nearly perfect... out of the way a little from the village centre and main road, but overlooking a beautiful golf course which was deserted... such a shame it looked fantastic,... This hotel is run by a family business in which the staff are more than helpful. They make you feel that you are important and they treat you like a human-being. The food is excellent and the rooms are palacial. There is also a brilliant view from every room. My room afforded a panorama of an unspoilt plain leading to... More

We had stayed here last year on the same weekend, so were looking forward to our stay. The room was very basic but clean and comfortable. It was a bit dated and could probably do with a new shower as the seal was broken. The staff were all lovely and very welcoming, the breakfast (full Scottish) was lovely although my... More
