Have been here most years for the last 10+ years now, and have never been disappointed. We go there particularly because of the quality of the food and the enviable wine cellar, but the breakfast is excellent as well! Not a cheap place to stay, but well worth it. The family who run the hotel are lovely, nothing is too... More

We recently enjoyed a one night stay at the charming Darroch Learg and only wish it could have been for longer. It combines all the elements of traditional Highland hospitality in classic country house style with delicious dining, elegant surroundings, comfortable bedrooms and charming owners & hosts. The situation of this lovely Victorian house affords glorious views to the hills... More

I booked the restaraunt based on trip advisor reviews for a meal for my partner and I have to say it was beyond outstanding - i told the owners my choice was based on the reviews and i would like to say bravo to them - it was a beautiful hotel with attentive, excellent staff and advice on everything from... I am only leaving this review because I feel the people that run this place have achieved something truly remarkable. This is an exceptional hotel, with the MOST charming owners. The rooms are magical and the views truly spectacular. The food is terrific (yes, I had the fillet steak which melted in my mouth - the sticky toffee pudding was... More

We stayed with our 11 year old daughter for 3 days DB&B. This is a very well run small hotel and we would definitely return. The food was absolutely fabulous and dinner was a highlight with specials added to the standard menu each evening; the wine list was also extensive and Fiona was an excellent host who always made you... Yet another gently fading hotel with the tiredness beginning to show. Gutters and rhone pipes blocked and rain spraying down below, the drive with potholes. Mind you, the rooms were spotless and no complaints on that score - nor with the very friendly, cheerful, efficient owner's wife. And did she work ? She certainly did. Her husband whom a hotel... We stayed two nights in this hotel, having come up to Ballater to visit family, and with our young daughter now two, tried out a larger room. This beautifully decorated room comfortably fit not only our king size bed (which gave me the best sleep I've had in months - quite something with a toddler sleeping in the same room... More

The weather on the way to Ballater was terrible-rain, sleet and finally snow-but the welcome was warm, the fireside cozy and the dog friendly. We had booked a room (Room 1) with a view of the mountains and were not disappointed--when we could see them. Our host/owner was always around and ready to answer any need, provide a snack, recommend... More

We really enjoyed our stay at Darroch Learg with amazing food and very welcoming staff however we felt the accommodation was massively overpriced for what you got. The room are very dated, cold with a tv that didn't really work. My advise would be to stay at the craigendarroch which at least you have access to leisure facilities and more... More

We stayed at the Darroch Learg on a one night dinner, bed and breakfast arrangement. We received an upgrade to a premier room with an outstanding view so I felt that the £230 we paid represented good value. We love quality small country house hotels in beautiful locations and this one certainly hit the mark. I particularly loved the log... More
