Have stayed many times and cannot wait to return. There are few hotels which offer such a relaxing informal stay and yet score so highly on food and service. One of the most ellusive things to find these days is that"off-switch"...here i (and many others )have found it.Your hosts are attentive and "nice people" and run a great hotel. One of the really... more

The Darroch Learg has been on my list of places to try for some years, so we were delighted to finally get an opportunity to be in the area and booked a two night stay. We were not disappointed with the food and our room was comfortable and looked to have been recently upgraded. The breakfast was also excellent and... more

We went to this hotel as a special treat to celebrate our anniversary. The room was ok - but the bathroom had broken fittings, a bar of Camay soap plonked on the basin and the thinnest, meanest towels I've seen for a long while. When the bottle of red wine my husand ordered was not available, he was told he... more

This is a lovely location with easy walks into town. The hotel is pleasant an traditional with very comfortable sitting rooms. The food is excellent and I would recommend this to anyone. The wine list is fantastic value as well. The rooms on the other hand are very dated and in many cases a bit dark. If you are going... more

The Saturday evening tasting menu combines fresh Scottish ingredients in a varied and delicious manner. Every year we make the journey to dine in Darroch Lairg and it never lets us down. The hospitality and the stunning views complete the experience. more

We stayed at the Darroch Learg for 2 nights in August while attending a friends wedding in Braemar. I had read some great reviews of this hotel and was not disappointed. On arrival at the hotel I agreed with some of the other reviews that the outside of the hotel was not spectacular. Once inside however this place is wonderful... more

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. A friendly warm welcome on arrival from the owner. Our room was light and airy and really relaxing with large comfy chairs in the bay type window where the sun streamed in virtually all day and with beautiful views. Well located with just a few minute walk to the centre of Ballater and plenty of... more

This a hotel has an interesting exterior, but once inside we were warmly greeted by our host. The room was fine but nothing too amazing. We choose our holidays based on food and this hotel was no different, we had read many good reviews of the Darroch Learg dining experience. We chose the 6 course sampler menu where the chef... more

The place is charming as is the staffs. Everything gives a family impression … even the food ! Therefore my disappointment: I was expecting something more than average cooking quality (heavy, meat overcooked, no creativity). The place is a good stay to discover the nature in this amazing region but don’t expect gastronomy! more

We vistied the Darroch Learg in July 2007. Our expreience was delightful. The staff was friendly, the accommodations were excellent and the food was delicious. Whether relaxing in the lounge or eating in the dining room, we felt as though we could staylonger than the 2 days we booked. The location is handy for sightseeing. We enjoyed our after dinner... more
