If a visit to Scotland is on your agenda then the Darroch Learg in Ballater on the River Dee is a must on your list. A warm welcome by owners Fiona and Nigel with a cup of tea and a piece of shortbread was the perfect start. A large well thought out bedroom with a marvellous view over the Dee... More

This beautiful old building is located Mountainside with good parking. It has sweeping views, comfortable updated rooms and good food. We had a twin room with a very nice tub/shower combination. There were two very comfortable over stuffed arm chairs large closet with hanging and shelf room, TV, and a large writing desk. The staff was efficient, pleasant and very... More

Having just returned from a business trip to the Seychelles I was looking for rest and relaxation in the Highlands and I wasn't disappointed. The service excellent, the food delicious and the rooms very comfortable. Hard to beat

Sunday 11th May. A wonderful gastronomic experience underlined by discreet but efficient service. Very relaxing, memorable and enjoyable evening. The lounge was a most relaxing place to begin and end the evening. Impressive gin list. Good value.

Just returned after a delicious Sunday lunch. Hotel is very comfortable, with lovely wood burning stove in the welcoming snug, where we sat looking through magazines whilst waiting for our lunch. The menu was limited but a lovely, varied choice. The roast Scotchbeef was perfect and the setting excellent in the sunny conservatory, being entertained by the bird life. We... More

We have just had a lovely meal here whilst staying at Craigendarroch - the whole meal was delicious from start to finish, with some of the best cheese I've had for ages. The staff were very attentive, despite a very large party of cricketers (which we were informed of when we booked). I would heartily recommend it and will definitely... More

Booked in after a long work day in Aberdeen to kick off a long weekend in the Highlands. Could not have been a better start. Fiona and Nigel very welcoming and I believe that they have been running Darroch Learg for well over 20 years. After such a long time, their friendliness and enthusiasm doesn't appear to have waned; relaxed,... More

Family favourite revisited after many a year break.... From dropping the bags so we could have a march around Loch Muick at high speed, return to warm up, hit the village, return to get ready for supper...we were met at the door by the hosts. Ready to chat, share news (weather and fishing sucess or otherwise!) we felt at home... More

We took our daughter from London to Darroch Learg for a meal. The food was outstanding. Service first class. Big city quality at a reasonable price. The attention to detail shown by the owners who were both on duty makes all the difference. Wonderful evening certainly worth repeating. I

Booked the whole family, 3 generations, for one night and dinner to celebrate a special birthday. We were made extremely welcome and were all shown individually to our rooms which were all beautiful and quirky, such fun! We had a great pre-dinner present opening in the little lounge with bubbles and everyone joined in the celebration! Dinner was excellent and... More
