Nigel and Fiona and there wonderful staff (including the ever-patient Kevin) made our stay with them wonderful. The room was comfortable, clean, had a lovely view, and was quiet. The food was fantastic. It was only a short walk down into town for shopping, and easy hikes up the hill or down by the river. Beautiful place, and I am... More

Don't be put off by the reception area which is pretty dire. However the reception by the staff is warm & friendly. The food is excellent & this alone is worth a visit. Nigel & Fiona Franks also run a good cafe in the old railway station in Ballater, well worth a visit

If a visit to Scotland is on your agenda then the Darroch Learg in Ballater on the River Dee is a must on your list. A warm welcome by owners Fiona and Nigel with a cup of tea and a piece of shortbread was the perfect start. A large well thought out bedroom with a marvellous view over the Dee... More

Having just returned from a business trip to the Seychelles I was looking for rest and relaxation in the Highlands and I wasn't disappointed. The service excellent, the food delicious and the rooms very comfortable. Hard to beat

Sunday 11th May. A wonderful gastronomic experience underlined by discreet but efficient service. Very relaxing, memorable and enjoyable evening. The lounge was a most relaxing place to begin and end the evening. Impressive gin list. Good value.

Just returned after a delicious Sunday lunch. Hotel is very comfortable, with lovely wood burning stove in the welcoming snug, where we sat looking through magazines whilst waiting for our lunch. The menu was limited but a lovely, varied choice. The roast Scotchbeef was perfect and the setting excellent in the sunny conservatory, being entertained by the bird life. We... More

We have just had a lovely meal here whilst staying at Craigendarroch - the whole meal was delicious from start to finish, with some of the best cheese I've had for ages. The staff were very attentive, despite a very large party of cricketers (which we were informed of when we booked). I would heartily recommend it and will definitely... More

Booked in after a long work day in Aberdeen to kick off a long weekend in the Highlands. Could not have been a better start. Fiona and Nigel very welcoming and I believe that they have been running Darroch Learg for well over 20 years. After such a long time, their friendliness and enthusiasm doesn't appear to have waned; relaxed,... More
