After spending our honeymoon night there 28 years ago we thought it would be nice to return as we have moved from the area. What a mistake. It was dyer. Reception dark and dingy and the room we were allocated in the roof had the smallest window ever. Never again. We won't be returning.

Images on the official website were very misleading! Room was dirty on arrival and TV did not work. No desk lamp and poorly lit. Toilet did not flush and upon complaining to reception it took over 24hrs for someone to be sent to inspect it, after which no action was taken and no apology was given. Car park is too... More

The hotel was quite easy to find, although I did drive past slowly a couple of times to see if I could fit in the car park. I couldn't, as there was a wedding on, so unfortunately I had to park my car out of sight on a side road where there was broken glass on the road. This was... More

I stayed at this hotel for two nights on a weekend while visiting family. From the outside it looks lovely, there is ample parking spaces and it just looks like a really nice hotel. When you get into the reception it looks very olde looking which I liked, there is lots of natural wood and the bar and breakfast area... More

The staff was friendly and breakfast good, but the room was so old. It looked like furniture was grabbed from a garage sale. I wad there for work and the good thing was that it was close to where I had to go without having to go through town. Prices are high for what you are getting in return, for... More

This mock Tudor hotel seems to be full of character, with helpful friendly staff. We only stayed one night, (We are a family of 9, using 3 rooms, #6,#8 and #12.) but found it to be reasonably well placed for central Bedford, and very close to the station. Floorboards are creaky, but every room is a little different. #6 has... More

friendly welcome, a lovely member of staff seemed to be doing everything, bar, waitress as well as reception if it wasn't for her it would be 2 stars. restaurant was good but long wait despite only four eating. perhaps that was a hint. Breakfast was however really nice. Room was so run down. The windows looked like thick mildew but... More

This has to be the most awful, run-down dump I have ever stayed in! It is rare that I write a bad review, but there is nothing positive I can say about this place. It is dirty, inadequate, uncomfortable and in need of a complete refurbishment. Having read trip advisor before I stayed I had no excuse - enough warnings... More

We had to stay overnight in Bedford and were given a number of hotels in the town. We chose the Shakespeare as it was nearest to where we were going. The hotel it turns out is very near the town centre and station. We found the hotel to be very clean throughout and the staff helpful although we wanted to... More

Never slept in such a disgusting room before in my life! The bathroom was the worst I have ever seen all 5 different tile patterns of it. My advice.. Rather sleep in your car. Breakfast was quite good and served by a friendly member of staff. Getting my bill was also an ordeal ... Fawlty Towers was never far from... More
