Lovely old building in a lovely little village. Peaceful and quiet. Sorry car trip to Carlisle about 4-5 miles. Managed to check in early due to the cracking staff who are all very polite. Room was good with no faults. Breakfast was decent as well. All round it was a perfect trip

Our second visit to the excellent String of Horses, we stayed for 2 nights, 17/18th February. Great hotel ideally positioned to tour the area from Hadrians Wall to the Lake District and beyond, don't forget to visit Carlisle with it's cathedral and a great railway station. Our room as expected was spotless and very comfortable. The bar and restaurant area... More

We were made to feel very welcome by owner Colin. During our mid week one night stay it was very quiet resulting in a sound night's sleep. Our room was spotlessly clean, warm & well equipped. Both the bar & dining room are very atmospheric & meals were large & hearty. All in all, an excellent place to stay &... More

From entering the stunning coach house we were made to feel very welcome by Colin Ramsey . We were given the key to Room 2 which we found charming, spotlessly clean { I watch 4 in a bed } and warm. We had a meal from the specials board of Fish and Chips which was Huge, Hot and Holesome {... More

Good location minutes from M6 and Warwick Bridge so handy for a stopover on a drive and easy to find if you can follow the direction signs. Bedrooms are clean, warm and comfortable which is what you would expect, if you want a shower make sure you book a room with one because some have a shower attached to the... More

We bid this break on eBay, it was a 2 night stay. We upgraded to a superior room. This was a nicely decorated room overlooking the entrance to the Hotel. The room was nice and quiet and we did not hear any noise from adjoining rooms. The room had ample drawers and a nice big wardrobe. In the Bathroom there... More

I had a voucher for 3 nights Bed & Breakfast at the String of Horses Inn in Faugh (Faff), just 8 miles outside Carlisle. It's a 350 year old staging inn, but has been modernised. The restaurant and the lounge are on the ground florr and both are low ceilinged and wooden beams, but very comfortable, with wood fires in... More

We stayed here for one night on Hogmanay. We were welcomed by Colin who throughout our stay was friendly and helpful. The bar downstairs was lovely, full of locals who we found to also be friendly and welcoming and they helped us enjoy our stay. Karaoke was on throughout the night and we found that to be very entertaining, Food... More
