We actually came to stay here in September last year. We had a great welcome from the owner who was very welcoming. We weren't shown to our room, I found this a little disappointing but no big deal really. The room was lovely with a huge bathroom and comfy bed. We had our breakfasts here and a dinner on one... Short 3 day 2 night trip in String of Horses, a 17th century inn. Warm ambience with good breakfast. Neat and clean room overall. Toilet was large and clean. Double beds were slightly narrow if you require more space but otherwise it was fine. Location was slightly rural but with the GPS it can be found without problem.

Spent a very enjoyable overnight. Staff very friendly owner drove us to an alternative venue for our evening meal due to their chef being ill. This was above and beyond our expectations. Rooms were spotless with lovely fluffy towels. Breakfast was very good and plenty to choose from. Had a great nights sleep in the lovely comfortable bed. No negatives... More

Had a good nights rest and lovely breakfast on our way to Scotland on Bank Holiday Weekend. Would recommend this location for any kind of quiet break. Gorgeous little hamlet, didn't want to leave!! Pity chef had been taken ill and couldn't eat there in the evening.

We really enjoyed our overnight stop here. The atmosphere was nice, the room was good and the food was very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was good in that it was near Carlisle and the motorway.

Absolutely loved this 17th century rural pub. The hosts were friendly and welcoming when we arrived. The rooms are large, clean and well appointed. We had dinner in the pub and the food was great. The portions were large and of a reasonable price. There was a great atmosphere and locals were friendly.

We had a wonderful stay! The room was gorgeous, the staff lovely, food was fresh and plentiful and the whole Inn was beautifully kept. We chose String of Horses Inn for the history and it's uniqueness.

In a small village setting,The String of Horses is a creaky coaching Inn full of charm & character with a friendly atmosphere, The room was quite small but ample, nicely decorated, with thick fluffy white towels, tv, hairdryer, kettle etc, no bath (rm11) and shower had quite low water pressure which was disappointing after a days walking. Comfortable and warm,... More
