Just adding to my husband's review (Nick) - this was our first holiday with our seven month old baby and Lorraine and Martyn made it very easy and really welcomed her as well. We stayed in the apartment and it was great to have a 'baby package' with high chair, stair gate, cot and changing mat - at least reducing... More

It is a stunning aparment in a beautiful part of the country, in easy reach of the northern part of the Lake District and Hadrian's wall, with great short walks right out of the front door. I could write pages about how amazing this place is, from our warm welcome with tea and cake fresh from the oven on arrival... More

I stayed here with my boyfriend last weekend after booking it as part of his Christmas present. We arrived after a long drive in the dark and the snow and as we pulled up, our hosts Lorraine and Martyn came out and greeted us with exceptional friendliness and warmth, almost as though we were family or friends coming to stay.... Stayed as a solo businesss traveller- very sadly for just one night. I arrived after dark, very tired and very frazzled after a long drive/hard day to a lovely warm welcome, cup of tea and top class home baking (I dont have a sweet tooth but could see the quality of Lorraines cooking - so as I was saying my... I am sitting here at work after a weekend away at the Hawksdale Lodge and I can not stop thinking about how excellent it was! Lorraine and Martin have not missed a single detail. Words do not begin to give this gorgeous place justice, so please have a look at my pictures as well. I came here with my boyfriend... More

Lorraine is one of those types of people that strive for perfection in everything she does and it shows. The rooms are superbly presented, beds comfortable and the views breathtaking. Breakfast was a sublime foray into home cooking and local produce again provided with the utmost care. I have stayed at over 100 B&Bs and hotels across our green isle... More

Our hosts Lorraine and Martin could not have been more welcoming with Martin sending out a search party for a few lost souls! Firstly we were spoiled with a delicious cream tea followed by a luxurious soak in the beautifully appointed bathrooms. After a spectacular supper of Salmon and Eton Mess we warmed ouselves around the firepit whilst taking in... More

My wife selected Hawksdale Lodge on the strength of the reviews and we were not disappointed. We had elected to occupy the self-catered apartment which forms the East wing of the house. On arrival we were treated to freshly-made banana cake and tea, the perfect antidote to 5 hours of driving and the rigours of the M6. Our hostess, Lorraine,... More

I can only endorse all the other reviews! this B&B offers a view beyond reasonable expectations and food and hospitality to match the view! We read a Guardian review and followed his recommendation to take up the hosts offer of providing dinner rather than walk to the pub- and we were thoroughly rewarded by Lorraine's excellent culinary skills and will...
