We stayed for one night. Overall very good. - Room (2) spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated - Breakfast good quality and generous - Staff friendly and welcoming - B&B and pub has a lot of character throughout due to its age. Minor negatives are: Before 10pm the room was very noisy due to kitchen being right below. In fairness, there... More

We were travelling the area and did not have a clue where we were but knew it was Sunday lunch time. We saw the Peldon Rose and from the outside it was inviting,, we parked our car easily and went inside using a front door that was very historical. As we entered we IMMEADIATELY thought are we in a pub... More

We have had patchy experiences at this pub. I booked ahead, asking for a table as close to the fire as possible, but we were initially shown into the conservatory. Fortunately the evening was quiet and there was plenty of space available in the old, cosy part. Having found a table for us there, the waitress disappeared without bringing any... More

We came across this pub on a country drive, one dreary day and had lunch there. The pub is really cosy inside, with beautiful old features and crackling fires. We ordered off the lunch menu and found the service to be absolutely fine, despite what some of the other reviews have said. Would definitely go back again, loved the pub... More

The recent response we made of our dreadful meal on this review was backed up by witnesses to the event that afternoon, I thank them for their honest and true comments, we're certainly not whingers! by any means and a situation that happened some 6 months previous whereby we got 8 chips each on the fish and chip plate!! Where... More

The title says it all. Lovely location and beautiful old building but without these positive assets it wouldn't survive. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. However there are so many great pubs around serving superb food who have to rely on great produce from their kitchen rather than a great view and a high tide to attract diners.... More

Having had a delightful lunch here a couple of months ago we were so disappointed with our visit yesterday. The latest menu is very limited and, for what is a country pub, over-priced. The omelette looked more like a Belgian crepe, being wafer thin. The beer battered fish, served on a bed of a dozen chips, was not the most... More

Always have passed this place on the way to Mersea but have always wondered what it's like. So we went in just as dinner service was beginning so there wasn't many people in there . But was told we could sit in the bar area or the restaurant we choose the restaurant. The restaurant is gorgeous and relaxing and even... More

Day 10 of our cycling tour of East Anglia (Aug 23rd) and we are staying at the Peldon Rose. This is a chocolate box pretty pub dating from the 15th century. It’s set back from the very busy B1025 Colchester Road, not a good road for cycling on. The interior is as one would hope, oak beamed and characterful. Upstairs... More
