We booked The Peldon Rose predominantly for its perfect location to Mersea Island . When we arrived the characteristics of the pub were lovely and the staff very friendly . We had booked all 3 bedrooms for 1 night, on the surface the rooms looked very fresh and comfortable however in room number 1 I found I had to remove... More

Visited on New Years Eve lunchtime, service was fairly chaotic due to staff shortages. However, the food was mostly excellent (burgers were very good, vegetable curry excellent, however the chicken kiev was a bit small and not as tasty as expected. Not excellent due to service issues but don't let that put you off....

I visited Colchester for the first time in 30 years and the Peldon Rose was as good as I remembered. On a cold windy wet night the fire was very welcoming as was the staff. Service was excellent, the hot breakfasts set the standard for the next 2 weeks of Touring the UK and were up there with the best... More

We visited the Peldon Rose today, there was 7 of us for lunch. I had the Roast Beef. It was one of the best roasts I've ever had. Highly recommend a visit. The staff are very friendly and attentive and it's a lovely atmosphere. I can't wait to visit again

It started on a bad footing as soon as we arrived. The good bit first. This is a fabulous looking pub/restaurant in an attractive location. The table for 8 was late in preparation but there was an apology. We were seated in the conservatory which was okay but it didn't look very christmassy which was a shame given the time... More

We had lunch here yesterday whilst visiting Mersea Island and it makes a good first impression, charming building with original wonky doors and a real "chocolate box" feel. We had lunch and the food was beyond expectation, the fish and chips was HUGE, more like whale and chips, excellent quality and value for money. The inside of the building in... More

We booked in to the Peldon Rose for the first time and were pleasantly surprised to see how attractive it was both inside and out. Having had a large midday lunch on Mersea at a reunion we struggled to find anything light enough for us on the evening menu, but the waiting staff were so attentive and helpful that we... More

We had a lunch for four on Monday 24th August. We were completely ignored after being seated. Eventually we had to get up and search out the menu and ask for some drinks. The meals were adequate but uninspired. Not even a bit of salad garnish with fish and chips. There was a hair caught up in my fish but... More

Food was absolutely delicious, even the kids pasta sauce! Really pleased we was passing and decided to pop in, I had 3 courses, which is very rare for me, but was so nice, I didn't want it to end! Not one complaint from 8 of us, 3 being children! Staff very helpful and polite! Great big garden, nice restaurant area... More

Lovely old pub with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Great location for drivers and cyclists to base themselves for exploring the local area. Staff very welcoming and accommodating. The cosy single room is small but perfectly formed, and with good features. The included breakfast makes the tariff extremely good value - the full English is excellent. Although small, the... More
