Thank goodness we didnt stay here, but only ate here with friends after visiting Burghley House. The outside facade was promising - very pretty stone similar to the Cotswolds. We ate in the bar/restaurant and the supposed Roast Rump of Beef which we asked to be served rare was brought on cold plates, the meat was grey, the vegetables cold... more

It seems that once again this inn is under a management company so changes are being made but some deep rooted problems have yet to be addressed. The room I stayed in was relatively clean, (carpet could have done with a shampoo), no odour and towels and linen very clean. Basic toiletries and refreshments supplied. The food is very tasty... more

We booked because from the outside this looks like a typical old coaching inn. However, our bedroom heating was intermittent, the furniture was old and battered, the TV received just two 'snowy' channels, a shelf on our wall pivoted when items were placed on it causing them to fall on the stained and cigarette burnt carpet. Through the thin wall... more

Just thought I would warn anyone who may be thinking of staying here that although I did not stay here that the bar food was very poor. We had lunch on Saturday and we thought we were being safe by ordering open goats cheese sandwiches from the bar menu to be served something that was a mix of burnt /... more

I booked a collegue over for business into this place as everywhere else was booked up and the picture looked great outside. I was and still am embarressed by the quality of the accomodation ! I might never live it down ! The room was ok in size, but lacked any modern decoration, and the mould, water stained, flaking walls... more

We booked a room at The Bull and Swan as everywhere else was full. The pub was warm and welcoming as were the staff but the room had mould and waterstains running down the walls, plaster flaking off and a stained carpet. The ensuite"bathroom" (which was a smelly, freezing cold, grimey, mouldy cupboard) needed a good scrub. The heating didn't... more

In December 2006 I needed a hotel for the night in Stamford and could only get a bed at the Bull + Swan owing to the craft fair at Burleigh House. The highlights: Burnt evening meal (2 other women eating nearby had the same experience) Overpowering smell of air freshner in the rear accommodation block and in my bedroom Main... more
