All-in-all a lovely place. Very lovely room, nice staff, nice restaurant, good food with a very pleasant terrace garden area. A fantastic place for a little break. One small niggle. The roast venison was a tad stingy at extra slice wouldn't have gone amiss and would not have broken the bank. Other than that fantastic....

And old building with classy and old-style public rooms. My room was well outfitted, spacious with a lovely bed for a good nights sleep. Breakfast is first class with choices of all the English favourites, including Eggs Benedict, my favourite. Only sour note of the stay was the bitter - Ruddles - awful!

The hotel is in a great position, a short walk from the centre of Stamford, a lovely town, and convenient for visiting Burghley House. The hotel itself is full of character, although there was initial disappointment with our room. Room 9 was large and comfortable (the bed had excellent quality bedlinen), but is in need of refurbishment. The carpet was... More

Peaceful spot on a Monday afternoon. Do people still want afternoon tea ? well maybe for Granny, Mother in Law,birthday treat or meeting friends for a chat. I qualify on all counts. Great plate of sandwiches, scones and jam, macaroons and other cakes with plenty of tea or coffee at reasonable price for two. Relaxed and comfortable seating inside or... More

Stayed here overnight in one of the lodges for a wedding. The wedding breakfast and bbq in the evening was top drawer. The staff were brilliant. Why not 5 star, well two things. I live in London and I am use to expensive drinks, this hotel takes it to the next level , the other gripe, though the buildings are... More

Americans must love the William Cecil Hotel in Stamford. It is full of character with quirkily shaped rooms and lots of wee stairs and corners. It is about as far from a chain hotel as you can get. The room we were in was a good size with a huge bathroom (but no shower - strange). Breakfast was wonderful in... More

We stayed here for 2 nights, the building is beautiful & the room was very comfortable for £130 b&b. It's a shame that breakfast finishes early on weekdays (9.30am) and only extended by half an hour at weekends, we only experienced a snack lunch & breakfast, it was fine - staff very friendly.

A quaint old building, but not at all tired - overall a nice decor. The room was a great size too, kitted out well for drinks, and some decent toiletries. From what I saw of Stamford, it looks like a beautiful area. I think there were around 26 rooms, but I saw a fair amount of staff around, and that... More

There were just 12 of us, our journey from home was about 75 miles. When we arrived we were greeted by courteous staff. Plenty of room in the car park, with staff very helpful with carrying luggage to our room, (ther isn't a lift). As the weather was glorious we sat out in the sheltered seating area, with some sunshades... More
