Attended a beautiful wedding here. Lovely hotel, lovely grounds, food was good. Didn't stay for breakfast as had to get away early but we peeked in the breakfast room and it looked very wholesome. Our room was in the eaves and well decorated in keeping with the traditional and quality feel of the hotel. Huge very comfortable bed which is... More

Arriving midweek after a stay in another establishment in Suffolk we were pleasantly surprised by the difference in the two - Dog friendly Hotels - see other critique of SH. The William Cecil restored our faith in good hotel management. On our arrival at our room for 2 nights, our dog was gifted with a bed of his own, 2... More

A three day stay for work in August and this hotel ticked all the boxes, so much so that a re-book for next year. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, or at least mine was. No complaints from our party about the rooms. The breakfast table was great but it would be even better if cooked breakfast were available... More

Thank you for your review. We're really chuffed to hear that all your party had such an enjoyable stay. We don't really get a lot of demand for breakfast before 8am on a weekend, but if we are asked we will always do our best to ensure we can provide something for our guests before they leave. More

This old hotel has had modernised bathrooms but still retains all the charm of yesteryear. The staff are attentive and plentiful. Our bedroom no:4 was large with French doors to the garden. King size bed and seating in the garden. We ate at the bar and the hamburgers were great. Breakfast was well cooked and a great variety. To be... More

What a great review, thank you. 'The 9th Earl' is a truly splendid room but my personal favourite is 'Cecil' with lovely views over the terrace and a roll top bath in the room. More

The George of Stamford is the iconic hotel in Stamford but it is rather expensive and old fashioned with dark interiors needing a facial lift. The William Cecil is an excellent alternative for a stay and better value. Our room was large , comfortable and well appointed with a touch of exoticism in the choice of furniture. The public rooms are well decorated... Juliet and the staff hosted our wedding perfectly. Everything ran very smoothly and we had a memorable day. The food was very tasty and extremely well presented. The grounds are beautiful and very kept. Overall the hotel and restaurant are to a very high standard and we look forward to returning for a meal in the near future

This is an excellent hotel with exceptional staff. Our room was large and bright and well appointed. The service could not have been better. All the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and valued. We throughly enjoyed our stay. Just two negative points, the portions could be a little more generous at breakfast and the... Thank you for such a kind review. I'm sorry the portions at breakfast weren't quite generous enough, we'll certainly look at ways we might be able to positively change this. More

We stayed here for a night this August on a last minute booking. Both my wife and I really enjoyed the place. Our room was large and had a huge bed and bathroom. As reviewers say the rooms at the front face onto a moderately busy road and so there is road noise but we slept with the window open... More

Pleasant hotel downtown, quiet with nice decoration. Very good breakfast, and comfortable bedrooms. Avoid bedrooms close to main road otherwise you will loose your morning dreams! Hotel is well located with multiple restaurant and nice walks

The William Cecil is a thoroughly good hotel across a range of criteria; it is a lovely old building, it is positioned superbly on the edge of Stamford, its staffs are friendly, welcoming and efficient, and it has a huge car park - always a bonus for weary travellers who are spared the trials of parking searches. It is also... More

Thank you for your honest and helpful review. I would agree that our duvets are not suitable for very hot weather and I very much hope to have this resolved by next summer. We've already addressed the issue with the voile in your bathroom and I can only apologise for the poor quality of eggs at breakfast. More
